Habitus, winner of the 2014 World Beer Cup in the Rye category, is a spicy, crisp, and extremely drinkable double IPA. We use loads of Sterling and Chinook hops in the kettle and hopback (and even more during the dry hop) for intense pine aromatics accentuated by a rye and 2-row malt base for a truly great IPA experience.

Pour is a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is a minor fruity hop but way more of a spicy rye with some earthy English malt. Flavor is some tangy hop but then more malt than hops comes thru. Rye and again I get something like a maris otter. It’s not a huge presence but I can detect it. There is no canned on date but the hops may have faded a bit and more of the malt comes out. Still this is not some sweet malt bomb, the malt is earthy and dry and this beer has a super soft mouthfeel. Solid.

Can. Beermoth, Manchester. Hazy, mucky gold. Thin, dense, glossy topped, sticky, creamy white head. Looks great. There’s no canning date on this, and I suspect it’s not the freshest beer. The aroma suggests similar. It’s not vibrant, but there’s decent, spicy, piney hop. Some fusty citrus peel. Bit of toffee, and jammy malts. Taste is dank, resinous bitter. Slight dryness. Touch of spice. Decent mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden. Long, spicy bitter finish. Sank it.

Can shared in London - thanks to Daniel. Pours totally clear gold with a creamy, white head. The nose has pleasant, lightly ripened citrus. Lange, hints of pine, pale bread. Medium sweet flavor with more citrus fruits, tangerine, grapefruit, some grain, oily pine. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, a little resinous, more pale bread, rindy citrus. Good stuff.
