A crisp and malty dark lager beer.

Taste: Fruit forward hop character combines with hints of gently roasted caramel, washed down by a crispy malt aftertaste and pleasant tongue-tingling carbonation.
Appearance: Dark brown with a reddish hue.
Nose: Sweet toasted chestnuts and freshly baked wholegrain bread, with a touch of noble hop character.

12/04/2025:
440ml can as Põhjala Tume Laager. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of toasted bready malts, chocolate, some roast. Taste is the same, toasted bready malts, dark chocolate, dark fruits, some caramel, bittersweet but leans to the sweeter side. Light-medium bodied. It's good, and while obviously similar I'm slightly sceptical about this being the same recipe as North Star, definitely not as good for me.

440ml can as Põhjala North Star. Pours almost black with a very large dense beige head. Aroma of sweet-ish dark malts and roast, chocolate. Taste of sweet dark malts, roast, chocolate, caramel, light bitter finish. Medium bodied, smooth. A beautiful dark lager, nicely balanced.

On tap at Fuggles Cafe Tonbridge. Black beer lasting tan head. Decent black lager with some chocolate flavours. A little dryness. I thought pretty good. Very drinkable.

Tap at the brewery taproom. Rather thin body, medium carbonation. Malt-centered, with focus on roast. Med-high bitterness, light sweetness, a hint of astringency. Moderately coffeeish, slight acrid deep roast. Overall good, drinkable, even if a bit harsh.

Can 440ml (Laagri Selver)
Dark ruby colour, steady beige head. Dark malts, coffee, caramalt in the nose. Light-bodied. Toasted malts, some coffee in the flavour leading to mild bitterness. Nice for its style.

Can at Goblet. Brownish misty body, off-white head. Creamy nutty aroma. Lean taste, bit nutty, flowery hoppy bitterness, mildly soapy. Ending a bit astringent, bitter. Too lean, dry, eh.

440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikk. ABV is 5%. Dark reddish brown colour, moderate off-white to beige head. Aroma of malts, brown bread, chocolate, caramel, burnt breadcrumbs, also herbal hops. The flavour has the same elements, not too sweet. More distinct hop bitterness than in most dunkels.
