Summer Crush is a collaboration made to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Brussels Beer City. This blog talks about everything the breweries in Brussels are up to and was created by our friend Eoghan Walsh. To brew this beer, he brought along another friend of ours, Hélène Spitaels. She collaborates on Brussels Beer City, but is also the driving force behi huind Once in Brussels - our partners who take care of the guided tours in our brewery.
During this heatwave, we wanted to brew a very very light beer. A real thirst-quencher, with an alcohol percentage as low as natural fermentation allows. We also did not want to pasteurize the beer, something that is usually done with beers that have an equally low percentage. The result is a blond beer of 3,5% alcohol. Summer Crush tastes like real beer, super refreshing, with herbal aromas and fruity notes of mandarin and kumquat. Her body is well-balanced, which is the main challenge when brewing low alcoholic beers. Her bitterness is fine but moderate, to increase her drinkability to the max! Because we all know how important it is to hydrate in these temperatures... Available in bottles of 33cl and on draft in our Zenne Bar.

Bottle at Beer Capital Brussels. Pours clear gold, effervescent, with a tight, creamy white head. Lightly sweet with notes of dry pale biscuits, hay, dried lemon peel, a little pine needle. Light bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Fairly clean finish, notes of sourdough, biscuits, straw, grain husk. Highly drinkable.

16/X/22 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 24/VI/23, bottled: 24/VI/22 (2022-1379)
Cloudy bright yellow to blond beer, big creamy off-white head, pretty stable, a bit adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: very malty, raw grains, cow fodder, hay, barnyard, All-Bran. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste nice clean bitterness up front, grassy, some grapefruit, dry, a little malty, hint of citrus. Aftertaste: very bitter, a little metallic, hoppy, grassy, a resinous bitterness, malty, grains, hay, some cow fodder, very dry finish, decent beer!

Pours a slightly hazed yellow. Medium small white head. Scent is light, bit 'dusty' malts. Mild hops (earthy, citrus) , taste is sharp, green and herbal, tad oxidised it seems (cardboard, dusty) - yet fresh in it's bitterness. Weird... I hope something went wrong here, since this is way beneath DLS's quality standards.

Bottle from Geers. Hazy pale golden, stable, foamy, white head. Aroma of pomelo, grapefruit peel, apple, white pepper, pine, ginger, parsley perhaps. Taste has sweetish apple, unripe pear, sourish pomelo along spicy & herbal notes in a dry-bready malt body. Dry, crispy, grassy hoppy finish, herbal & yeasty with lingering unripe yellow fruits. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Technically flawless; good!
