On tap at Bier Paleis Brugge. End of the keg. Hazy brown beer thin beige head. Raisins dry oloroso sherry aroma. Oh wow. That's so much better than I was expecting. I thought it might be tired or oxidised. But it's fresh and tasty. Good biscuit, cake, treacle jam sponge. A great beer. Tasty as hell. Good strawberry jam. Good treacle flavour. Good Raisins and sultanas flavour. Some biscuit/ cake. Lovely. Really impressive. Some wine character comes through.

Bottle from Stacks. 5 February 2024. Vintage 2018. Bottled: 25/2/2022. Clear amber, thin, tan head. Aroma of red & green apple, wet wood, sherry, raisin, ruby port, brioche, fruit cake, almond. Taste has sweet-sour red & green apple, pear & raisin in a caramelly, jam-like malt body surrounded by woody red grape, bitter herbal notes and a vague savoury touch of cherry tomato. Herbal hoppy and slightly tart finish of ripe grapes, wet wood and warming sherry- and port-like alcohol. Medium body, thin oily texture, soft carbonation. Typical 'late' Struise, I suppose, a vinous late-night sipper, not even that alcoholic but just a bit too thin.

0.33 l bottle from 'Ace Drinks', 2018 vintage, bottled in February 2022. Hazy, ruby with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite vinous-fruity, a bit yeasty aroma of prunes, raisins, vanilla, molasses, lovage, sherry and a touch of coconut. Fairly sweet, malty, moderately bitter, rather vinous-fruity and quite boozy taste of molasses, raisins, prunes, vanilla, oak, lovage, coconut, sherry and light chocolate, followed by a long, gently bitter, boozy finish. Medium to full body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Tasty, rather complex Barley Wine, just a bit too boozy to be great. Overall typical Struise stuff.

Lichtbruin bier met weinig tot geen schuim. Smaak is licht fruitig en licht zuur met iets van rode wijn. Krijg de indruk dat er door de lagering een echte verbetering heeft plaats gevonden. Heel goed.

330 mL bottle. Pours a murky, reddish-brown color, with a small, beige head. The aroma is dry Syrah, oak, pecans, cardamom, cola, and Angostura bitters. Dry and earthy, with a musty, tannic bitterness. Heavy, dusty, and a little syrupy. Complex and funky.

Bottle at home, 7th May 2023. Pours clear and honey coloured. Aroma is caramel, vineous and wood. Taste is sweet, but also vinous notes add to temper it, wood and liquor, sherry, complex and layered. Light in the mouth and easy to drink. Excellent Barley Wine

Pours murky mahogany into a tulip. White head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Dark caramel and alcohol soaked pit fruit aromas. Thick with hot caramel, sour apricot, sherry and prune front to back. Warm lasting grappa finish. Taste similar to a very aged quad.
