Poured from 750mL bottle. Lightly hazy gold with small white head. Funky, some nice masala notes with feint cognac, touch of apple, not getting much rum here. Adds some nice complexity. Quite enjoyable sipper.

750mL bottle at SP 10th anniv. line share, 9/30/23, thanks Tim Johnson! Clear, pale-blonde-golden. Moderate white ring of bubbles. Nose is rich mineral, well-aged barrel character with almost a tea-like spiciness from the Marsala. Would never have expected that to smell like that. Huge brett, round lactic. Very nicely-aged and mellow with excellent aromatics. Clean and snappy. Light fruit and more minerality on the finish. In the mouth it's soft, fruity, showing chewy wheat, light oak tannin, huge minerality and huge Brett, surprisingly. Gently spicy barrel character, the tea-ish-like note from the nose. Mellow and massively flavorful.

The latest variant on this popular Cantillon theme so far (to my knowledge at least), with the lambics having spent time in cognac, rum and marsala barrels; bottle at Cantillon’s taproom in Anderlecht. Egg-white, moussy, slowly breaking, medium thick head, hazy ochre-ish peach blonde robe. Aroma of wrinkled apples, old wet wood, white grape, unripe apricot, dusty bookshelves, old leather, hay, indeed marsala piercing through while cognac remains more subtle and rum only reveals itself near the end of the bottle (oddly), dried orange peel, oxidized sparkling wine. Very estery onset, yellow plum, sour peach, green apple and white grape, even apricot, tart but in a very elegant, ‘malse’ way and even with a touch of sweetness hidden within; active but ‘refined’ effervescence, vinous mouthfeel, lovely breadiness buried under ongoing sour fruit with that sweeter element continuing too, fruity and graceful lactic tartness and lovely vanilla-scenting oak wood throughout. The marsala sweetness peeps through in the end, aided by a hint of cognac which are both more clear than the rum, but thanks to the lemony ‘stings’ of the lambic here and there, things stay in perfect balance. Some vague warming alcohol in the end, lingering flavours of grape skin, sugared lemon, unripe apricot and wood – even a brief, vague bitter note at the back; remains radiantly complex till the very last drop. Truly amazing, with the marsala being a stroke of genius, adding a sweeter element which brings out the fruitiness of the other flavours; to me the best of the different 50° variants that have appeared so far and a true Cantillon masterpiece in its own right.

750ml bottle pours a hazy orange with some clumpy, white head. Nose is sweaty, apple cider vinegar, some booze, some malt and grain. Orange and grapefruit too. Flavor has booze, limes, natural orange wine, the barrel really stands out. It finishes lightly tart with a long, lasting mouthfeel. Full bodied. Really well blended.

Bottle from Geers. Hazy amber colour, white foam. Funky, citrussy with sweet barrel notes. Good, but not the best 50N version.

750mL bottle, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is wonderfully invigorating, with intense rum and cognac upfront, light funk, and a touch of sweet red wine. Flavour is rich, with sweet red wine, cognac, and a touch of rum. Gentle horse blanket and earthy leather underneath. The barrel combo is quite remarkable. Excellent.

Pour at de Garde 10th Anniversary. Bright, clear golden pour, small bubbly head. Fruity, tart aroma, aspects of white grapes and apples, pit fruit, yeasty funk. Taste is a sweet and tart fruity blend, with the additon of light savory spice notes. Barrel notes all over this, woody.

Bottle pour at the April DC Ratebeer tasting. Poured a mostly clear, very very slightly hazy golden yellow color with a wispy/creamy off-white head. Aroma was light lemon, tangerine. Oaky tartness, sour. Tangerine. Delicate.
