A Triple Dry Hopped Imperial IPA 26 years in the making
25 years ago we celebrated the 1st Anniversary of our fledgling brewery with a beer that was far away from the craft beer norms at the time. It was far too intense. It was far too hoppy and bitter. Yet it became the shot heard ‘round the world, and beer history was changed forever. We’re talking of course about our flagship Stone IPA. So, to celebrate the beer that (eventually) launched generations of hop fanatics, we present this imperial version of the beer that made our name among the (budding) craft beer legions. Loaded with gloriously bitter notes of piney, citrusy, resinous dankness, it’s everything we love about our classic West Coast style IPA…properly turned up to 11 25 for the occasion.

Draft. An amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of citrus fruit, pine needles, hops, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of citrus fruit, hops, spices, pine needles, malt, and caramel, leading to a bitter finish.

Can from Hogs Back Brewery shop. Aroma combines resin with marmalade and spice. Clear amber gold. Thick fluffy foamy white head. Medium-heavy bitter. Resinous with that marmalade and spice. Underlying malts. Medium-heavy bodied. Oily. Soft carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Bitter but surprisingly relaxed DIPA.

Draft at Hair of the Dog, Phrom Phong, Bangkok. Poured a mostly clear light amber colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light citrus, big alcohol. The flavour is over moderate bitter, with a rich, light toffee caramel malt, warm boozy alcohol, big woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Over medium bodied with average to soft carbonation. This beer certainly makes a statement. It’s all about the bitterness!

0.355 l can from 'SpeciaalBierPakket.nl', canned in September 2022. Clear, orangeish amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, rather fruity-resiny aroma of mango, orange jam and pine. Quite sweet, fairly resiny, gently fruity taste of massive pine, grapefruit, mango and orange jam, followed by a long, very bitter finish. Medium to full body, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Super classic West Coast stuff, very piney and bitter, lovely. Reminds me of Ruination, picked up in a growler in Amsterdam a few years ago, good memories.

Can at Goblet, with Vresk I guess? Golden-amber body, off-white head. Resin-driven old-school aroma, citric, soft. The taste starts off citric with a huge herbal bitterness moving in (seems more than 80), some caramelly notes, resin, lovely old-school I2PA!
