Bottle from the 'Meerts' box, from Hopduvel. Vintage 2020-2021. Clear red, thin, off-white head. Aroma of blackcurrant, blueberry, passion fruit, crème de cassis, sour cream, red fruit jam, barnyard, musty grape. Taste has very sour blackcurrant, passion fruit flesh and blueberry juice surrounded by sour cream-like lactic acid and funky notes against a sourdough malt body. Tart finish offers musty hay, berries and tannic wood & berry skin. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Pretty intense, not bad for 'second-hand' fruit.

Poured from a 375 ml, 2020 / 2022 vintage bottle. Aroma is moderately fruity with nice cassis notes. Medium light earthy, herbal mustiness with a bit of tannins and a slightly peppery note. Light cherry notes as well. Faint oak and light grain and alcohol notes. Pours a hazy, copper-red with a large, thick, frothy, slightly pink head that recedes quickly to the edges before disappearing. No lacing and faint legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with a medium light, slightly sharp acidity and light grain notes. Low bitterness and light alcohol notes. Moderately strong cassis notes with lighter cherry notes and hints of lemon. Light earthy, herbal mustiness. Faint oak notes and light tannins. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid meerts, but another one that is fairly fruity despite being second use fruit. This might be the fruitiest of them all, and it's hard to believe this is second use fruit. Light lambic notes poke through in the background.

Sample (20/21, thanks fonefan!). Amber colour, small white head. Aroma is tart floral, fruity, some mild acidic and funky wooden tones. Flavour is black currant, some floral, wooden, mild acidic, funky and tartish tones. Funny how these Meerts beers from Tilquin have such a similar aroma, but flavour is clearly of the flavourant.

Bouteille 37.5cl, BB 22/06/2036.
