Golden Bock

Glissade is a remarkably mellow take on the traditional spring bock. With restrained sweetness, we emphasize subtle malt flavor balanced against delicate aromas of spicy and floral European hops. This complex balance helps Glissade slide across the palate, bracing us against the last cold nights of winter, while its bright golden color turns our thoughts toward spring.

Bottle. Pours a golden amber with a sudsy white head and aromas of skunky hops, a bit of grass and grains. Flavor is grain heavy... bread dough and honey with a little bit of a grassy bitterness and some fruit sweetness mid to late-palate. Nothing very intriguing here... but solid enough.

Sampled on draft at the Rivertown Pub in North Huntingdon PA this beer poured a vibrant golden-amber color with a large soapy white head. The aroma was light fruity and floral hops with not a whole lot else going on. The flavor was tangy yet dry with a table sugar element and light floral hops and a touch of fruit. The finish was long and dry. Medium body. Ok.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a glass. Pours a light amber with little head and some lacing. Taste is malt up front and some hops in the aftertaste.

12 oz bottle. Poured a golden yellow color with a large off-white head. Aroma is a light, slightly grassy flavor with a malty sweetness. Flavor is pretty crisp, with a nice hop and malt balance. Not my favorite Sierra Nevada, but it’s certainly a good, drinkable beer.

12 oz bottle from GM Liquors. Nose of grassy hops with some light honeycomb sweetness and some toasty malts thrown in. Clear yellow gold with a medium pale yellow head. Flavor is lagery yeast, light bitterness, and a hint of sweetness. Nice but not great.

Bottle as shown. Pours a clear orange golden with small frothy white head that diminishes quickly. Decent lacing on the glass. The aroma is a grainy malt with honey and wheat grass. Medium mouthfeel with a wheat grass hop flavor and sweet malt finish. Easy to drink a decent Heller from Sierra Nevada.

Outstanding heller bock! Perhaps not as heavy on melanoidins as some German examples but perhaps I prefer that, giving this beer an easier palate. Definitely one of the top US examples I’ve had (of course, that’s not very many!). Golden color, moderate foamy head. Nose is sweet honeyed malt. Flavor the same, with some floral hops near the finish, almost a smokiness in the finish. Rounded sweet mouthfeel but light enough that this just disappears from the glass.

Sampled on tap at Churchkey DC and in bottle at Rec Billiards in Winston Salem NC. Totally crystal clear yellow with some frothy white head. Aroma is yeasty, sweet, bready, grassy. Flavor is exactly the same. One note.

Pours a golden, clear body with a creamy white head. Aroma is a weak point; most boozy lager smell. Kind of like a cheap lager almost. Taste is at first not that impressive; it comes on a little strong with the grassy notes and the pilsner-like hops. As you keep on drinking, it gets a lot more bready and smooth, and the harsh flavors at the front subside to some degree.

Faint lemon grass nose. Clear yellow thin head. Moderately strong unmalted grain flavor, with a grassy parsley finish. Alcohol not detectable. Ideal segue beer to introduce macro drinkers to craft beer. It is flavorful yet still somewhat familiar.
