Amphoras were the first vessel used by humans to make beer. Recent studies suggest that the result was a mixed fermentation wild ale that got sour while aging.

We brewed a huge 35+ Plato Imperial Stout full of crazy amounts of roasted malts. Aging in clay allows for far more oxygen penetration than oak barrels which mellows the harsh rostiness into beautiful coffee and chocolate notes and the diverse microflora of the clay add a delicate tartness to the beer with some dark fruit notes.

Bottle. An oily one, close to black, with no head. Roasted, sourish, meaty aroma with blood-like notes. Wood, vinegar, cocoa and soy sauce. It's full bodied and very lightly carbonated. Warming and sweet. Soy sauce, roasted malts, coffee, cocoa, vinegar and some meaty hints in the flavor. Everlasting finish. Very demanding to drink, interesting indeed, but still nice. 230325

Bottle. Dark brown. Smell is soy sauce and roasted malt and tar. Ooooily, sour tar, sticky sweet. Mighty things clash together that do not know how to talk to each other. Its a party with awkward smalltalk. Wanted to like it... but... well...

Bottle courtesy of Kostas Kykao, tasted with the München Ratebeer Group Christmas Tasting Friday 2nd December 2022. Pours black with a distinct tang, reminds me of an old school Harveys Imperial Stout, Worcester Sauce, thick in the mouth, nice tart bite, oily texture. I like this because it reminds me of an old skool UK Impy.

Bottle at Christmas Tasting, dark dark brown with no head, slightly sweet and very roasty nose. Flavor is interesting, a sour dark beer, salty/soy with a lot of umami. Almost no carb. You can almost taste a bit of clayish character to it.

Garching XMas tasting, 2019 batch, thx Fin&Loz! Raisiny, roasty aroma, mild sweetish soy sauce, some spice touch, alcohol, bit oily. Sour taste, lightly roasty, oily, nutty, mild vanilla, minerally clashing with the sweet base body. Interesting, glad to have tried it, but not a beer I'd repeat.

Bottle, vintage 2019. Black color with beige head. Aroma is damp cellar, chocolate, mildly funky. Taste is the same, pretty nice fruitiness, a bit salty too, some soy sauce. Very oily mouthfeel, low carbonation. Alright, not exactly my cup of tea.
