Pours dark chestnut brown with an amber hue. Medium, stable off-white head. Scent is mild. Whiff of chocolate, but not roasty - i mean the sweet, industrial chocolate (think milka) , a fine breadyness underneath. Taste is light, tofee comes to mind, caramel, mildly bitter. Bit crisp but feels a bit cloying near the end. Decent, though.

Paderborner Alt, Flasche von Edeka, Korbach. - Dunkelrotbraun, klar; üppiger Schaum. - In der Nase verschämtes Toastmalz mit leichten aber derben Zügen von Röstmalz, etwas muffige krautige Hopfung, schwach seifige obergärige Fruchtigkeit. - Antrunk weich toastmalzig mit schroffen dunkel- und röstmalzigen Zügen, leicht greller Fruchtigkeit, plastikartiger Zitrone und verdünnter Karamelsüße aber auch herzhafter krautiger Bittere. Milder rezent, vollmundig, weich; leider stören säuerlich-blecherne Noten das Mundgefühl. Im Abgang malzbitter und derb hopfenextraktbitter. - Ruppiges Altbier mit billigen Zügen, gerade noch trinkbar. Den Klassikern vom Rhein kann es nicht mal von ferne das Wasser reichen. (29.8.2021.)

Bottle, found in a supermarket in Winterberg. Creamy aroma. Malty flavor with a touch of caramel and grassy and earthy hops. Tastes a bit cheap. Metallic aftertaste with grapes.

500ml bottle: BBE Dec 18. Poured into an old Hannen Alt short tumbler with a thumb indent (lovely glass), three times (it's only a 0.2 litre glass) at home on 21st Aug 18. Large tanned foaming head on each pour, clean and clear mahogany red body. Malty aroma and taste, a bit too sweet for even my sweet tooth, needs some hop action to calm it down and give some bitterness and balance. One of the sweetest Altbier I have ever had (up to 30 or so on ratebeer) and I used to frequent Dusseldorf and it's Alt Stadt before the internet was invented; don't remember anything this sweet.

Sampled from 0.5 l bottle from 'EDEKA Preller' (Breckerfeld), best before April 2018. Clear, dark reddish amber with a thin, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish, slightly grassy-spicy aroma of caramel and some straw. Moderately sweet, slightly bitter, a little grassy-spicy taste of caramel, nuts and some straw, followed by a short, moderately bitter, dry, slightly grassy-spicy and quite metallic finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Poor Alt.

Bottle from a friend. Slight haze on the cola colour, thin off white head. Taste toffee, caramel and light malts. Taste spicy and mid sweet. Thin body.
