We didn’t go for an old Victorian recipe this time, hence no year on the label. This is more an approximation of the kind of Mild that was rife in the 1950s. Dark, aromatic & complex but low in alcohol & easy drinking at the same time. Five different malts including Amber, Medium and Dark Crystal and Chocolate might stir memories of a Werther’s Original. Hops: From the UK-Ernest and Goldings.

Cask some weird dispense. Beer Shop Folkestone. Black beer lasting tan head. 3.4% abv. Good chocolate mild like chocoalte ice cream. Really easy drinking. Lovely chocolate flavour. No real bitterness. A good chocolate malt led dark mild.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson's Green, London, 21 May 2023) Dark brown colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted taste with dark bread, dark fruit, plums and herbal hops. Malty, roasted taste with notes of caramel, dried fruit, prunes, dark bread and a mild herbal bitterness. Light body, with a touch of sweetness. Well made and highly drinkable mild. Very nice.

As a big fan of the (single) dark Mild I remember I've had, I've been on the lookout for Dark Milds constantly. Pure joy when I found not one, but multiple at tilquin fest - as well as bitters ! The kernel's bitter was absolutely gorgeous, so I couldn't wait anymore for this one!

Pours an unclear, very dark brown with a dark amber hue to it. Medium large white, creamy and crazy stable white head - i'm talking Nitro style stability. Scent is caramelly, toasted bread, biscuit, fairly sharp and dry impressions, hops are fairly silent but prefent a green earthy note. Yeast is silent. Taste is smooth indeed, sharp by the carbonation and the roasty touch, minor coffee aspects - more so than the caramel that presented itself in the aroma. Pilsner-like mouthfeel, as well as carbonation level. At 3.8 ABV it doesn't lack in taste at all, yet it's recognoizably low ( and drinkable) Hard to pick appart in tasting notes, since it's a lot of minor (Mild, one might say!) aspects that work together and present something that's still ... Mild ! But what a pleasure to drink. More depth and longer lasting aftertaste than your average pilsner / industrial lager (for sure on the latter) at a lower ABV? Can we make this as standard as Pils / industrial lagers? Pretty please ?
