This cider is blended with 20% of Lambic.

Since 2022, Oud Beersel has been working with Vitalii Karvyha, the former Berryland cider maker from Ukraine, who had to flee the war. They put their skills together to produce cider on the wooden barrels at Oud Beersel. The proceeds from the sale of the cider should enable Vitalii to start up an activity again.

The cider is produced from McIntosh, Cortland and wild apples picked from an orchard more than 50 years old. The macerated apple juice is naturally fermented and bottled at Oud Beersel without pasteurisation or the addition of sulphites. This results in a wild dry cider, with almost no residual sugar.

Pretty pale even for a straight cider, 20% lambic did not do much to colour it. Very dry, low sweetness. Medium tartness, light sourness. Fully apply, pretty simple, but tasty apple character. Light funk. Only sprinkled with lambic elegant though, good.

From bottle, very little head, hazy and quite intense yellow colour, aroma of apple, minerals and some funk, intense puckering sourness, fresh and cooked apple flavor and a metalic whiff. Intriguing cobination, very very interesting.

Poured from the tap @ MBCC 2023 green session (finally adding my notes). Very hazy pale blonde. Crisp apple, enjoyable blend.

Bottle @ office. Slightly unclear pale golden body under a minimalistic white head. Aroma is dominated by typical lambic funk, cellar notes, acidity and wood. Taste has a hint of apple cider, but mild lambic with funk, leather, cellar and mild wood is dominating. Interesting to see how much just 20% lambic dominates most of the apple flavors. Balanced body and same aftertaste. Nice and refreshing.

Bottle, 75cl corked. A lightly hazy pale golden colored beer with a small white head. The aroma is mostly funky, like a lambic, with lemon, barnyard and some leather and oak. After a few seconds there's no cider aroma left. It's tart and full bodied, nicely carbonated, with a mostly fruity flavor. Funky too, but not much apple going on. Lasting finish. Delicious. 241107

Pours hazed blonde, some sediment. Scent is funky, appleskins, mild oak, full apples. Taste is full, apples, lambic pops up in the back. Dry, but not too tannic. Lovely dry cider.

Botrle, directly from brewery. Color: Hazy pale golden, thin white head. Aroma: Rural and stable funk, apple. Taste: Moderate tart, funky (rural, horse blanket, hints of leather), mix of apple, oak wood, hay, apple peel tannins, gooseberry and citrus notes. Medium body, low carbonation. Dry finish. I like Wild Cider and I like Lambic, but I'm not so sure about this mix. Definitely ok but for me it feels like missing something of both worlds instead of enhancement.
