Yet another bummed-out holiday? Lump of Coal Dark Holiday Stout is liquid consolation. It's a deep, rich, sweetly rewarding stout to take the edge off of that grim family gathering, that cheerless annual festival of alienation. This brew is as dark as it gets, as black as the lump of coal you'll be getting for Christmas. Because, let's face it, you've been pretty bad this year.

Bottle. Clear, deep brown body. Frothy, tan head, mostly diminishing. Malty, caramel aroma. Notes of chocolate and roasted grain. Hint of flowers. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. The finishes is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. Medium to full body, creamy texture, turning slightly ashy, soft carbonation. Nice caramel taste, very much like a Fuller ESB. Could use less sweetness, though, and a bit more roast. Enjoyable.
