A celebration of 9 years of Anspach & Hobday, but also one of our core ingredients; malted barley. A masterful blend of Pale Ale and Chevallier malts bring together a mainstay of modern beer and a heritage grain from brewing's past. Sweet malt aromas of honey and marmalade lead to a warming, full bodied mid palate. A touch more malt sweetness is balanced by a delicate hop bitterness, and the beer finishes with a hint of oak.

Tap at BXL. Imma copy my shabby notes from that night because I'm lazy af: honey bread on the nose, some savoury grains in the taste, a touch of booze, thin, underwhelming.

Can shared at the CBJ tasting, thanks to LKS, 12/06/24. Almost clear golden amber topped with a good sized just off white head. Nose is mellow fruit esters, dates, caramel, figs. Taste comprises fruit loaf, caramel, airy malts, biscuit, stewed fruits, sultanas. Medium bodied with a little oomph, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a hint of alcohol. Passable easy sipper but lacks depth for the ABV.

Can shared at CBJ - picked up from Clapton Craft. Pours mostly clear orange-gold with a bubbly, light khaki topping. Light-medium sweet flavour with notes of sun-baked malts, some leathery citrus, grassy bitterness, a little earth. Medium to full bodied, lightly oily, with fine carbonation. Mild warmth to finish, more grassy bitterness, toasted pale malts, ripening citrus, old leather. Nice one overall. Lingering bitterness.

Bottleshare at CBJ, Can, thanks to LKS. A light haze on this gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Slightly thin pale malts, modest dried fruits. Light and semi dry finish. Severely lacks any depth.

Draft @ BXLBeerFest'23.

440ml can - Pours an almost clear orange amber colour with a small frothy off-white. The aroma is caramel, toasted malt, vanilla and resiny hops. A moderately sweet and bitter taste, caramel, bready malts, vanilla, and resiny hop flavours with a drying bittersweet resiny hop finish.

Pours clear, surprisingly pale blonde with a hint of copper. Medium sized, very stable white head. Scent is very mild. Some aged biscuit maltyness. Taste is rather light for a barleywine. Fairly bitter, some malts. Mild fruityness. Very English maltyness. Caramel. Tastes more like a very intense Bitter than a BW. I like it, though expectations were vastly different.

On tap at The Craft Beer Co - Covent Garden, pours a clear amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out bready malt, toasted caramel and resinous hops. Flavour is bitter and malty, with bready malt, caramel, and bitter resinous hops. Bitter and malty. Dry and not particularly complex. Not bad.
