A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled.
Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar.

Bottle. Pours a thick black body that looks like it will carry no carbonation. It’s a trick though, and when the glass is about half full, an orangish head will start to grow and will reach about two fingers before all is said and done. Aromas are deep and diverse... prunes and dark fruit, vinous red wine notes, cocoa, and some woody/earthy tones. On the flavor side of the equation, the vinous notes are a bit distracting, so I’ll be interested in seeing how things shape up as the beer warms. Still, this is a mighty fine beer.

Pours deep black into a snifter. Mocha head slowly subsides to skim surface. Roasted pit fruit aromas. Creamy roasted chocolate and espresso. Perfectly balanced and not overly sugary.

Bottle@GBBF 2007. Dark beer with a coffee coloured head. The aroma is lightly dry and malty and the flavour is very dark, bitter, syrupy and vinous. Overall a reasonable fortified porter.

#400. Thanks to Lowe1983 for the bottle. I’ve been wanting this porter since I started enjoying beer. Pours black and thick with a very dark brown, medium sized, head. Aroma strikes you even during the pour. Roasted malts, coffee, chocolate cookies, molasses, cinnamon, and dark fruits. Full creamy body. Intense flavor. A deeply roasted malt strength opens up to chocolate, molasses, coffee, dark fruits, some vanilla, and amazing. Finishes with a fairly strong bitterness from the roasted malts, and just a hint of alcohol. So many flavors are expertly blended together which produces this outstanding porter. I wish I had easier access to this. Could be my favorite beer.

Test vom 11.9.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 13,13,13,12,11,13 - 12,75

Shared by Joebrew. Perhaps the world’s best porter. A black beer with almost no carbonation. Great aroma of cocoa, caramel, and roasted malt. Flavor has chocolate, lots of sweet malt and a roasted quality. A little sweet. Very good, thick and heavy palate.

50 cL botte (batch 191). Pours black/deep brown with a thick chocolate head. Nice liqourice chocolate roasted malt and slight smoked aroma, classic with a slight orange feel. Flavour is heavy on all notes, classic Ølfabrikken to have a heavy bitterness into the finish. Before that chocolate, slight liqourice and roasted malt notes with a whiff of wineous dried fruits make out a great porter brew, very classic but just much more powerfull than other baltic porters around. Great brew that keeps lingering long after the last sip.

From 50 cl bottle brewed at Nøgne Ø for dist. with the Shelton Brothers. Distinct dark horizon aroma initially. Aroma is chalky, light smoked. Light fruity flavour. Domininantly smoked flavour. Ends lingering dry malty and smoked finish.8-4-8-4-17=4.1

Bottle at GBBF 2007. Very dark brown with lasting tan head. Lots of choc on aroma. This is pretty damn good. Smooth in mouth, smooth great porter. Makes you feel all relaxed. Little bit smokey too, but the feel is great. That is such a great beer. So much so that I took a bottle home with me to drink on the train.

Pours a slightly water, slightly oily, all opaque deep black with a thin brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, nuts, whiskey, and coffee. Flavor is great, heavy on the roasted malt and coffee, with nuts, raisins, grapes, vanilla, and chocolate. Sweet and dry. Oily on the tongue with a lasting coffee bitterness in the mouth. The alcohol is felt in the throat. If I could make one critique, it could use a bit more hop just to round things all the way out. Otherwise, there’s a reason it’s one of the best. Complex but still entirely drinkable.

Bottle. Smokey coffee and dark chocolate aroma. Dark black - pours like oil - with a moderate brown head. Smokey espresso bitterness and creamy chocolate malt flavor with light astringency. Strong and full flavored - more like an imperial stout than any other porter I’ve ever had. Excellent.
