The Meerts Tilquin series was made by fermenting fruit that had already been used once. Pinot Gris grapes were fermented for a period of 4 months in a blend of 80% 1 year old Meerts and 20% of a blend of different 2 year old lambics. Meerts (or March Beer) is a low strength lambic, which was originally produced with the weaker wort obtained from the rinsing of the grains. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, they are refermented in the bottle.

Pours clear blonde, small fast to instantly fading white head. Scent is earthy, early-harvested (or so it seems) grapes. Petrol aspect is there, lambic funk clearly noticeable. Taste is fairly sharp, medium acidic, earthy, vegetal grape notes. Not very recognizable on the specific grapes, which is a bit of a surprise after the greatness provided in the Oude riesling A L'ancienne. Mild funk, medium acidity. Medium carbo. OK.

Bottle that we picked up from Dranken Vandenwoude, Veurne. Belgium. Had this Saturday 14th February 2026 at the Manglham 2nd Winter Tasting listening to Maserati - Rehumanizer. Pours almost clear with a slim white head, zappy and very much a wine blast, soft mouthfeel, not as aggressive as I was expecting but not without those typical lambic touches. Great. Score 7.8

Bottle. Hazy pale golden, offwhite cream. Big flowery herbal, fizzy aroma, wine and vinegar. Medium light foaming body, pleasant tart vineous, barnyard , flowery, light leafy, puckers back of the mouth, but not the cheeks, grassy finish, fresh fun.

Bottled, MH 2026, thx Fin! Lightly hazy pale golden body, no head. Dried white grapes and brett in the aroma, bit bretty. Lean, dry taste, lovely white grape raisin touches over bretty notes, clean funk, hay, lightly herbal, low tartness, high drinkability. Nah, Tilquin rocks!

Poured from 375mL bottle (bb 10/06/2027). Clear blond gold with minimal white head. Mild Riesling notes with soft funky tartness, decent. Generally prefer the red grape varietals over the white grape varietal meerts beers.
