Ever since the folks at Boerenerf first began experimenting with quince, they found the intense flavours and aroma to be very complementary to lambic.
The fruit is pressed and spontaneously fermented in lambic barrels.
This aromatic blend is beautiful in its complex and intense character. A unique experience.
Fermented, aged & bottled on the farm.

The second iteration of Boerenerf's quince lambic, basically a refermented blend of quince 'cider' (fermented quince juice) with their own lambic; again three (of the in total two hundred existing) quince varieties were used and assuming these are the same as in the first batch (Lescovacz, Vranja and Champion), I think this product is made in exactly the same way as the earlier 'Kweepeer Lambiek' and should therefore be merged with it. Anyway, for this 2022 vintage: thick and frothy, snow white, pillowy, fizzing, firm head on a misty warm-yellow blonde robe with thin but enthusiastic strings of sparkling throughout. Aroma of raw quince picked straight from the tree, quince tree leaves even, dry blocks of wood, dried fenugreek, even cumin seed somewhere, unripe plum, raw radicchio, hints of hard cheese rind, dusty old book shelves, dry clay, petrichor. Very crisp onset, a crystalline carbonation piercing through a dryish but rounded, full-on quince flavour, reminiscent of green apple and hard pear but drier and 'greener', flanked by touches of unripe plum and grape skins; there is some softness in it which balances out the malic and lactic acids, while a thin lemony sourness plays along as well - but nowhere does this whole beer become too sharply sour, maintaining a high degree of drinkability throughout. Nevertheless the malic and lactic acidity keeps things on edge, round a green quince pulp- and lightly bready core, with yoghurty and crabapple-like effects; some woodiness appears in the end but subtly so, along with vague Bretty accents of damp hay and raw button mushroom, yet the main flavour remains this green plant-, tuber- and hard green apple peel-like quince, with a certain vinosity and smoothness to it. Making lambic with a fruit which is essentially inedible till it is cooked this smooth and quenching is an accomplishment by itself - more lambic producers have come up with quince lambics since the 21st-century lambic revival began and each did it in their own creative way, given the lack of a tradition to fall back on, but I think Boerenerf adds a valuable and memorable product to this still limited group of lambics. This 2022 iteration is in any case sufficiently distinct, with those typical herbal and clay-like orthonasal aspects and a soft overall dryness, as well as a less straightforward overall 'green fruit' flavour than the first (2021) batch. A side by side tasting should prove interesting.

Bottle shared with the missus. Onsite at Boerenerf. Misted glowing yellow gold. Really nice thick white foam. Sharp lemon led fruit. Bright quince. Light tart funk. Bright oak. Taste is clean tart and lightly tart. Hint of fruit sweetness. Lean and clean on the palate. Fruit and oak to finish. I do like quince in a beer.

Hazy yellow, thin layer of foam. Very complex, citrussy, lemony, barnyard, funk, peppery and fruity. Very nice!

Yellow with light haze and quick fading head. Aroma isn't great as there's an overwhelming plastic element to it. Tastes nice though. Very fruity. Sharp but not overly sour.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Yoav's place. Cloudy yellow. Funky, spicy, fruitiness, minerals, some phenols, a bit of pear, sour, a bit bitterish.

Pours fairly clear blonde, small white head. Scent is full-on quince, mild lambic beneath. Taste is full, intense quinbce. Bitter and sweet fruityness over a tart , dry and acidic back. Very balanced ( though heavy on the fruit) , juicy and characterfull. Quite nice, but for sure you'll have to love quince to appreciate this one...

As Kwee Lambiek Oogst 2022 Small white head, rather stable, over hazy pale yellow beer. Spicy nose, middle East spices, and indeed quince, upon classical lambic yeast notes. Leafy, floral. Sharpish, light acidic flavour, again floral, if less. Applejuice with all the sugars extracted. Lactic acid. Acidburn and -thinning. Very good carbonation. Long lasting flavours. Good fruitlambic, in my memory better than last years' batch.
