Tetley's was established in 1822, by an ambitious young man called Joshua Tetley. With his experience in the family malting business and the belief in its motto ‘Quality Pays’, Joshua Tetley took advantage of the lack of successful breweries in the North of England, compared to those in London. After nearly two centuries of perfecting the brewing process, the name Tetley’s is synonymous with a smooth, tasty pint created from a perfect combination of traditional and modern brewing techniques. Tetley's range of quality ales is brewed using only the finest quality ingredients to the highest standards to ensure the perfect pint every time,
Tetley's Original Bitter is an amber bitter ale, which has sweet toffee apple flavours balanced with distinctly bitter dry flavours and a lingering dry bitter finish.
The ABV has slightly reduced over time.

Can. Sweetish, grainy aroma. Sweetish flavor, fizzy with some caramel. Slight bitter aftertaste. Drinkable, but not worth a retry.

Can. Deep amber in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. Caramel aplenty, slightly bready malts, a touch of leafy hop and slightly bitter finish. So so.

21/10/2018. Can of the Original Bitter, 3.6% abv, from a skanky mini-market in Skegness run by a very rude chap indeed. The buying experience was marginally worse than the beer. Poured clear amber with a foamy off-white head. Aroma malt, toffee, fruit, berries and metal. Medium plus sweetness, moderate but slightly unpleasant bitterness. Moderate body, slight oily and watery texture, soft carbonation. Metallic, berry bitterness to finish. Just fair.

440ml can of Original from B&M Darlington. Amber colour, off-white foam head leaving some lacing and malty yeasty aroma. Taste is malt, toffee, yeasty with earthy bitterness. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry tangy bitter finish. OK.

440ml can into pint glass. As Tetley's Smooth Flow. Widgety gush leads to a still golden bronze beer with a two finger tightly packed creamy head. Excellent lacing. Smells of caramel lollies being eaten in the next room. Smooth texture, toffee malt taste. Short finish. Standard English lunchtime pub bitter.

Can. Nose is caramel, musty, fruit. Taste is caramel, berry, slight butterscotch. Smooth Mouthfeel. I?ve had worse. Edit: Smoothflow is a completely different beer, I am not sure why it's under the same listing. It's a muted version of the above with a wert cardboard finish. despicable.

Can of the "Original" version at a work quiz night, poured repeatedly into a small disposable plastic water cup- not one of my classiest drinking experiences! Was quite surprised to see it’s a separate rate to the keg version- had assumed I’d just be doing a re-rate. It’s a slightly murky amber-brown brew with a thick off-white head. A surprisingly fruity flavour with caramel and tea on the side. Sweetish, smooth and very easy-drinking. Very little hop presence at all. It’s not great, but it’s much better than I expected (although I should stress that my expectations were pretty low). It’s also much better than I remember the keg version being (and I’ve had the keg quite a few times) so maybe it is different enough to warrant the separate entry. Anyhow, it powered our team to winning the quiz, so it can’t be all that bad.
