750ml bottle from Black Isle brewery. It pours jet black deep tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, bitter - sweet, oily, unctuous, deep chocolate vibes, gateaux, bourbon biscuits, vanilla, chocolate ice cream and bourbon soaked oak. The taste is slick, oily, unctuous, bitter - sweet, lovely chocolate vibes, vanilla, gateaux, chocolate ice cream, bourbon soaked oak, touch of spice, toasted coconut, bounty bar, toffee, vanilla fudge and some coffee with a toasty bourbon finish. Fulsome body and moderate massaging carbonation. Well judged. Good depth of flavour and balance. Moreish.

30th May 2022; Shrewsbury Beer Share Evening in Chez Sophie. Five guys enjoying themselves. Last beer of the evening for me (I think the others might have had some more); 75cl bottle, it certainly helped me sleep anyway! Tanned topping to this black beauty, malty and chocolatey with a coffee ester and flavour in there too. An ideal night cap and a great way to finish off my tasting session to catch the last train home (22:45).

75cl bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, May 22. Pours dark with a good tan head. Aroma of dark malts, coffee, mild barrel-influence. Taste presents a nice depth of flavour, chocolate, caramel, moist cake, coffee and layered dark malts, smooth underlying bourbon carrying through admirably. Very good.
