Known as ‘whisky island', Islay is the centre of the smoky, peaty single malt universe and for good reason their barrels take centre stage in our cellar.
Aging imperial stouts in these beautiful casks is a high wire act of accentuating the rich peatiness of the casks while rounding out the unmistakable iodine and smoky flavours of the barrel. Once the smoke clears, the flavours of rich fruit cake, dark chocolate and molasses emerge. The result is an intense, decadent stout to lose yourself in.

From a 330ml can on 8/10/2022 (shared with Butz). Pours near black with a smallish tan head. Smells of peat and bourbon. Tastes of chocolate, smoke, campfire ash, dark fruits and a good whack of booze at the back. Syrupy palate with moderate carbonation. A very solid smoked impy if not quite top flight.

330mL can, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is nicely peaty, with lots of iodine, medium roast, and oak. Flavour is wonderfully peaty, with lots of smoky whiskey, light roast, a touch of sweetness, and then again finishing peaty and smoky. Love that Islay character. Not the most complex BA impie by a long shot, but I love that Islay.

Can, courtesy of Ryan
Dark brown colour, near black. Mild but evident aroma of peat, some roasted malts. Good body, with moderate sweetness; it's big on the roasted malts, and tar, accentuated by the salty and peaty character of the barrel.
Not worth the price ($12 for 330ml), but it's surely very good..

330 ml can. Pours black with full tan head. Aromas of soft peaty whisky, caramel, vanilla and roasted malts. Flavors follow same with additional creamy chocolate and dark fruit. Very nice integration of the Islay barrel; not too peaty and without iodine flavors. Warm finish. Beauty.

Can from HoTM. It pours pretty much opaque black with a dissipating tan head. The aroma is rich and smoked upfront, bitter - sweet, dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, molasses, rocky road, toffee, peat reek, slightly medicinal, burning embers and some meatiness. The taste is dry, toasty, dark roasted malt, bitter - sweet, really nice dark chocolate, praline, warming spice, smoked malt, lovely peat fire, medicinal, meaty, chocolate gateaux, nip of spice, damp oak, tar, toothy, touch of dark fruits and rocky road with only a touch of alcohol towards the finale. Fulsome body, average carbonation and slick mouth feel. Good depth and (imo) balance. Moreish and robust.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Cork & Cask. Pours black-brown with a foamy beige head. Medium-big sweet flavour with nice peaty character, roast, cocoa, raisins, scorched earth. Medium to full bodied, lightly oily, with fine carboarnion room. Warming finish, further rich peat, dark chocolate, dark fruits. Very tasty, opens up nicely after 30 minutes or so. Solid.
