As the days grow darker so does the beer we drink. And our most recent foray into the dark arts aims to be the perfect companion for those long winter evenings. The tagline for this Nitro Porter is smooth & refined and we believe it lives up to the hype. Creamy, soft and with a touch of roastiness to finish.

440 ml can. Pours a very dark brown with moderate foamy tan head. Aromas of dry creamy chocolate and roasted malts. Flavors of oats, creamy chocolate, sight fruit and roasted malts. Really smooth. Nice, full and flavorful for the ABV.

Cheeky half of keg at the Beer Shop Hitchin while discussing beer for my birthday. Poured way too cold and it took some time to come round. And when it did, it was a brilliant example of the style. Really rich malts and balanced bitter hops.

Keg at Cloudwater. Near clear dark brown beer, small tan head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, fine carbonation. Mellow dark malts, a little oaty dark chocolate. Modest ripe fruits. Light smooth finish. Tidy and hangs together well.

Keg at tap room in Bermondsey, London. Gorgeous colour with light espresso foam. Not rough and very drinkable despite being full bodied enough.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Black body with a beige head that slowly fades. Faint lacing. Aroma of soy sauce, wood and dark chocolate. Flavour of dark chocolate and umami. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. Rich and full flavoured for the ABV.

44cl can, BB 21/11/2024, canned on 21/11/2023.

440ml can. Poured almost black in colour with a short-lived, fizzy tan head. The aroma is roasted malt and chocolate. The flavour is moderate sweet, light liqourice bitter, with a smooth, somewhat light, roasty, light liquorice, light dry ashtray, chocolate, liquorice bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with lively carbonation. Tastes fine, but rather light and I do dislike fizzy stouts and porters.
