"So what's going on ere' then?" asks the elf. "Black Pale Ale makes no sense at all!"
"We agree completely" said the brewer, "but what else do you call a bottle - fermented black ale that tastes like american pale ale if you close your eyes?"
Ere's to your elf!

Bottle from Booths Supermarket, Media City. Very dark reddish-brown with no head. There’s nothing too ’pale’ about this, with dark malts providing a gritty texture and taste without any roasted malts involved. It’s at an easy-strength to drink, but lacks taste.

500ml bottle kindly shared by Finn. Remaining beige head leaving spotty lacing behind. Deep dark brown body. Dark doughy aroma, hints of caramel. The taste profile is dominated by nicely roasted brown malts. Malty ending with a mild note of bitter hops. Quite alright, some Yuletide feel in May. (Session at Finn’s in Tromsø 18.05,2017).

Flaske 500ml fra Kilpishalli. Delt med Rune på Nerstranda 18 Mai 17. Ultramørkebrun. Kjempehøyt luftig skum. Litt lacing. Forsiktig maltaroma ispedd nøtter. Smaken også nøtter. Behagelig tørr treaktig ettersmak. Et topp butikkstyrkeøl!

500ml bottle. Clear, dark brown colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Earthy fruity, minimally grassy hoppy aroma, spicy hints of hay and dark berries, bramble, black currant, corresponding shrubs. Taste is initially earthy and fruity hoppy, hints of bramble and blueberry, later slightly bitter with unpleasant chalky and ashy interference, hints of nori sheets.

50cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Opaque black with a rapidly disappearing cream head levaing a rather flat look; vaguely earthy aroma; rather thin with a light bitterness and some orange fruit. Not particularly good.
