An IPA brewed with Zumo & Mosaic hops
Each hop harvest is an opportunity for the mad scientists of the hop industry to introduce their newest experiments. Zumo is a thrilling new hop from the folks at Segal Ranch, named aftera Spanish term for citrus zest. Its vibrant lime characteristic hooked us immediately, and it was time for us to do a little experimentation of our own. We found out that Mosaic hops, when taking a backseat in the recipe for once, truly elevated Zumo’s flavor to monstrous levels of refreshing zestiness. Now we’re certified Zumologists.

Pint at the Thirsty Growler. Clear, honey amber, sticky lace pour. Sticky caramel nose with a very slight honeydew fruitiness. Kinda mellow. Sticky resin, sweet pine, rich malt, somewhat astringent, crusty texture. Otherwise clean. Ignorant me sees nothing special about this new hop. Good+.

I spotted a 12 oz can at the local beer shop and have it now ready to tilt inside of a tulip glass. It arrives an indistinct amber-yellow in color with a thin skim of icy white foam. I see a big amount of carbonation charging this one. Taking a sniff and determine citrus, a bit of pine and grain. I take a drink, ooh, pretty much old school IPA, nice. Grapefruit, varnish, lime, some maltiness, a fair amount of hops and lemon drops. Just enough sweet and plenty of bitter. Best IPA I’ve had that is not an imperial in longer than I can remember. Stone can do that still.

Grilled corn, grass, grapefruit, lilly nose. Hazy amber, fine floaties, medium head. Corn, grass. Full body, moderate carbonation. Full in flavor and body. Not my favorite flavor, but I like its rustic personality.
