Ashanti is the little sister of our 2022 Zwanze, Lambic with Gorilla pepper.
Same recipe, same pepper, but slightly more focused on the Lambic side compared to the first blend.
The spicy, fruity, and obviously peppery side is still very present and harmonizes superbly with the natural power of our Lambic.
The name of the beer comes from the inhabitants of the neighboring land, the Ashanti Kingdom, who were famous traders of this pepper.
This pepper is available to purchase at Sandrine’s store, Misao La Maison des Poivres, in Brussels. She also collected the pepper left over in the tanks after macerations and then dried it. This Lambic-infused version is also available to purchase at Misao.

Bottle at Cantillon shared with some Chinese Pilots and a couple of Swiss chaps, 18th April 2024. Pours a murky orange. Aroma is incredible, aromatic pepper, must, earthy, tart and funk. Taste has similar qualities, aromatic, funky, pepper, floral, it really brings to life the core spice. Love it

Bottle, bottled 23 May 2023. Color: Lightly hazy orange amber, thin off-white head. Aroma: Peppery, some fruity citrus and funk. Taste: Clearly present yet subtle peppery, notes of lime, lemon, earthy, funky hints and some oak wood. Nice spicy and refreshing tart fruit combination from start to finish. Very well balanced. Medium body, below average carbonation. Moderate to over moderate tart. Very nice.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy bright golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is loaded with intense black pepper and moderate funk. Flavour is loaded with very fine black pepper, light tartness, and moderately funk. Very peppery but never overwhelming. Wonderful stuff — as good as I remember Zwanze 2022.

Bottle at the loon factory. Hazed gold. Sturdy ring of white. Big black pepper notes. Lemon rind. Soft oak. Anderlecht yeasty funk. Taste has some sweetness up front. Mostly dry tart and lightly bitter. Foamy carbonation. Dry tart finish. Out of the ordinary and very drinkable.
