Gajes - Awarded 'Best beer of the Netherlands 2016' in the Dutch Beer Challenge.
Gajes (Dutch slang for scum) is a heavily dry hopped tripel.
We used a very neutral top fermenting yeast strain that produces a clean balanced beer with a smooth malty sweetness.
Three additions of bright floral hops build to a crisp-citrus-bitter crescendo (a gradual, steady increase in force).
A liquid poem to the glory of the hop", utterly deserving of its name and a craft beer you won't soon forget.

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 14 Feb 2019) Deep golden colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with apricots, orange peel and spicy hops. Malty, fruity taste with notes of apricots, orange peel, soft malt, coriander and a mild spicy bitterness. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Nice one.

Tight white fluffy head keft a blotchy cover on a clear light copper coloured still body. Belgian yeast, pepper, spices & citrus aroma. Medium bodied, well carbonated, sharp on the back & cloying aft. Bitter orange, yeast, pine, spices & pepper tastes with a long tangy, almost sour citrus finish.

On tap in Amsterdam (if you know what I mean), taste is tangy with a weird bitter orange, Italian bitter drink taste. Dunno, it is drinkable for 8%. Really nice bar as well, got some good beer.

Pours unclear blonde, big head, rather creamy in texture, average stability. Smell is Belgian style yeast, bit too phenolic perhaps. mild hoparoma that does lift the scent up, and makes it a whole lot better than if it were not there. bit bready, full maltyness. Taste is full, pleasantly hoppy. Phenolic character shows in towards the aftertaste, and is less to my liking, though it fits the beer fine, and is certainly more balanced than i would have thought. Bitterness is higher than your average Belgian strong ale. Seems like they created a beer that is somewhere between a Belgian IPA, and a Belgian Golden Strong Ale. And they succeeded !
