Bottle at Cantillon. It pours clear golden - blonde with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is musty, funky, dusty barnyard, sweet white grape, cognac soaked oak, vanilla, rum definitely comes through, dark fruits, caramelised brown sugars and tart tatin. The taste is firmly dry, tart, puckering, zingy, vinous, white grape, punchy acidity, gooseberry, white currant, sherbet, boozer feel than regular gueuze, Rum adds an interesting dimension, dark fruits, touch of brown sugars, tannin, minerality and a dull unpasteurised cheddar feel. Finish is bone dry and acidic. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Lovely depth of flavour.

This is aged in rum and cognac, beautiful cognac, oak, citrus, barnyard, hay in the nose. Tart palate, full body, balanced by rum sweetness. Amazing depth.. slightly warming. The spirits linger at the end. Superb

750ml (thx, Robert S.!). Pre-MBCC 2025 tasting with Chris, Farees, and Shane.
Nice funk and some nice oak. Taste is along the same lines. Acidity is a bit higher than usual for Cantillon, but iy's still quite approachable.
Good one!

[2023 Vintage] 750mL bottle at Yi Chan. Pours clear gold with a white head. A bit of funk and some cognac barrels on the nose; the barrels mute the funk and vice versa. Flavour has more funk than the nose, some acidity, cognac. Fairly juicy flavour, slightly waxy barrel character.

750mL bottle at Yi Chan, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma has some perfumey rum barrels upfront, a touch of cognac, and soft leather. Flavour is rather muted, with gentle funk, a touch of cognac, not much if any rum, along with a soft leathery finish. Very soft palate that actually lacks a bit of depth. It’s definitely good but far from a top Cantillon product.

Bottle at home picked up at Cantillon (I think) a short while back. Whiff of phenols. Leathery funk. Lots of oak. Lots of grape. Class loon.

So far the latest one in this beautiful series of specialty Cantillon 'geuzes', this (ninth) time using lambics aged in both rum and cognac barrels - a slight difference with the 2022 edition, which also added marsala barrel ageing to the blend. Bottle from Dranken Geers, bottled August 29th, 2023. Medium thick, loudly crackling, off-white, moussey, somewhat irregular, slowly breaking and eventually completely dissolving head over an initially crystal clear, warm and deep 'old gold' coloured robe with honeyish glow and some lonely, tiny bubbles here and there. Strong bouquet of old storage apples in a musty cellar, lots of noble moist oak wood, wet leather, orange wine, green plums, indeed a whiff of old dry coconut flesh piercing through (the rum) as well as preserved peach or other fruit (the cognac), also a prominent dry sherry effect of the old lambic itself, dried orange zest, dusty bookshelves, herborized dandelions, accompanied by more earthy barnyard scents further on. Rounded, fruity onset with a very noble, almost 'restrained' character, preserved peach and wrinkled green apple slices, green plums, tart but in a gentle, mellowish ('malse') way, with even a vague, 'hidden' whiff of apricot-like sweetness to it; soft carbonation, more so than in previous editions of this beer I had, almost veering towards flat - but still with a mild sparkle. This soft effervescence adds to a general vinosity which only grows; lactic acid remains 'mals' but omnipresent, forming a backbone through a slenderly bready core with a bready touch under growing woody tannins. The preserved, tart fruit effects continue and are even accentuated in the end when the cognac element comes in; the rum echoes in the background as a very vaguely coconutty element, but somehow remains more faint in the mouth than in the nose, where it is more clearly recognisable. Lovely dry sherry-like vinosity graces the finishing stages, matching well with the barrels, including their noble 'oakiness' (though not too much in a vanillin-like way in this case). This structure of sherryish old lambic, woodiness, preserved fruit and the accents added by cognac and rum is topped with a leathery Brettanomyces 'mustiness', even quite prominent retronasally, and finished with a moment of herbal old hop bitterness tucked away in the background. All these distinct flavour elements are put together in a perfectly balanced, focused, intelligent and classy way, as one tends to expect from this magnificent brewery. A top quality Cantillon lambic blend again - but with seemingly more 'souplesse' and 'lightness' than I recall from earlier editions, as well as less carbonated (perhaps even a bit insufficiently so, to my personal taste at least); one to sip with respect, languor and contemplation, like a high class dry sherry - or most other Cantillon products for that matter.

0.75 l bottle from 'Beyond Beer', bottled in August 2023. A little hazy, golden amber with a thin, slightly fluffy, slowly diminishing, white head. Slightly sweetish, sourish, rather fruity, slightly funky aroma of horse blanket, overripe lemon, oak, quince, maybe some cognac and a touch of vanilla. Gently sweet, slightly sour, rather fruity, quite funky and slightly vinous taste of quince, cognac, overripe lemon, vanilla, gooseberry, oak and horse blanket, followed by a medium long, gently tart, rather woody-dry finish. Medium body, smooth, gently astringent and slightly oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very refined and sophisticated lambic, fairly complex and fantastically balanced. Delicious!
