Bottle at home. Very dark mahogany, almost black, with a tan head. Dry oak, very old red wine, caramel, vanilla, dry Sherry, cocoa, dried plums, light spices. Medium sweet and bitter, light sour. Over medium bodied with dry tannic finish. This is very vinous, really tastes old. It's interesting and quite fun, but I wouldn't want to drink this often

330 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with light head. Aromas of caramel, dark fruit, charred oak, more bourbon than red wine, and soft toasty malts. Flavors of dark fruit, slightly tart vinous oak, dry caramel and more soft toasty malts. Complex stuff with great mix of malts, sweet and tart.

750ml bottle from Raynville Superstore I think. De Struise rate #99. It pours dark/deep brown with a frothy beige head. The aroma is rich and toothy, bitter - sweet, umami, liquorice allsorts, old leather sofa, vinous, fortified wine, cacao nibs, nutty, sticky blackcurrant jam, figgy pudding, plum wine, toasted fruit cake and a touch of coffee. The taste is juicy, tangy, very jammy, red berry, red grape, blackcurrant, bitter - sweet, unctuous, oily, dry oak, vinous, fortified wine, tannin, leather, toasted fruit cake, raisin, sultana, fig rolls, plum, prune, date, kinda savoury, salty cracker, warming booze and hint of acidity with a drying finish. Medium - fullsome body, soft carbonation and slightly slick mouth feel. Super interesting stuff. Vinous and robust. Slightly tart, tangy and very fruity. A very nice expression of fisherman's ale.

Sample at Palace Hall, Malmö December tasting (14/12/2024) - dark toasted and sweet malty with lots of dark dried fruit shred, wooden accents, some spices, light oxidised note but reigned in, full bodied with oak wine washed and spiced dark malty close. Beautiful 12 years after bottling.

Dark brown colour with thin soapy head and no carbonation. Aroma of old wood and dried fruit, especially raisins. Flavour of boozy raisins, almost towards rum. The woodiness of the barrel is strong but not overwhelming. Many things in common with sherry.

33cl bottle (vintage 2012 and bottled 22/05/2024) from Rob the Gourmets’ Market in Brussels as my beer #9500. F: thin, tan, quick diminishing to some bubbles. C: dark brown to black, opaque. A: dark malts, rich dark dried fruits, woody, caramel, dark grapes, toffee, overripe banana, raisins, spicy, nutmeg, very complex. T: obviously thinned body from full to almost medium, yet so many years this is normal, red wine, caramel, woody, dark dried fruits, banana, nice tannins, raisins, bit spicy, low carbonation, still almost complex beer after long time, yes this is still great and fully enjoyable for sure.

0.33 l bottle from 'Bierloods22' (online), 2012 vintage, bottled in May 2024. Opaque, black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite oxidized, gently vinous-fruity aroma of molasses, caramel, lovage, vanilla, raisins, chocolate and hints of oak. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, quite vinous-fruity, gently oxidized taste of molasses, caramel, lovage, raisins, chocolate, vanilla, oak and a touch of red berries, followed by a short, moderately bitter, minimally tart, slightly woody finish. Medium to full body, minimally astringent and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very sophisticated, nuanced beer, great flavours, just thinned out a little. Quite a bargain for such an old goodie!
