Imperial Porter is a full bodied, very dark, malty beer with a good roasted character coming from the Crystal, Chocolate and Black Patent Malts used in the mash. Warrior, English Fuggles, and East Kent Goldings Hops balance the malts with a good hop bite. The beer has an OG of 1.070, rounding out after fermentation with just a slight residual sweetness and cutting dry at the finish. 7.1% alcohol by volume.

Bottled@The 2nd ES/CS Beer Tasting. (thanks K.K.!). Deep brown colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, some toffee, dark dry fruits, mild coffee and some ashes. Flavour is roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, toffee and some mild ashy and yeasty notes as well. Mild leatheryness as well. Very pleasant.

Has a decent scent everything you would expect from a normal porter... malt, coffee, chocolate etc, although it has a light alcohol scent. No matter what shipyard beer you can always get that Ringwood yeast smell..... for better or worse. And this one is for better! I get a bitter chocolate up front, roasted malt or coffee in the mid- sip. The finish is a roasted nutty almond with a light-bodied smoky dry finish. And the drinkability is high, I was wishing I had another bottle or two!

Bottle: Pours a very dark brown with a massive, fizzy and fluffy brown head. Nose is dry and roasty, followed by a little cocoa. Taste is heavy roasted malts and sort of a dirty, earthy vibe. Light bits of chocolate, but mostly roast. Hoppier than expected, but turns out to be nice. Gets a little of the sour coffee grounds thing going on here and I donโt think the hoppy presence really helps with that. Still, I enjoyed it (and thatโs what counts) and it would be interesting to see this barrel aged... As it sits I can see why it has the overall score it does.

Deep dark brown coloured body almost completely opaque with a thick, dense two centimetre-tall light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, sour milk, grapes, oatmeal and a touch of coffee. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep pungent assertive roasted malt with oatmeal and oak noticeable and a very pungent bitter malt finish. Aftertaste shows milk, coffee, nuts and a bunch of caramel. Overall, a pungent and overpowering beer that hinges on the verge of not being a baltic porter - but showing some decent characteristics. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from McKinnonโs Meat Market in Salem, New Hampshire two days ago, sampled at a hotel in Boston, Massachusetts on 23-September-2010.

(Bottle) Very dark colour, almost black, with ruby hints when seen through light. Lasting, beige head. Roasted, malty, slightly fruity nose with notes of black coffee, cocoa, raisins and dried fruit. Roasted, malty taste with black coffee, dark chocolate, raisins, liquorice, dark rye bread and a touch of ashes. Slightly citrussy coffee bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, some sweetness half way through but turns dry towards the finish. Nice and solid porter.
