Many thanks to Frank and Jean, our favorite Brits, for bringing along a hard-to-find English quadrupel to sample. I have my Trappistes Rochefort glass, my favorite, ready for the pour. The 375 ml bottle is open and I tilt it. The appearance is a dark cola-colored liquid with a tinge of amber at the edges. I smell ripe dark fruit, yeast and a promise from the barrels. The drink is really fine, complex and full. I taste black plums, chocolate, baked bread, malt, raisins and a small vinous quality. Quite nice.

Dark brown beer, medium tan head. Smells.of fruity tannins and malt. Distinct red wine quality in the flavour, with tannins again and berries. Also.has malt, some chocolate, wood, brown sugar and warming spice. Rich and warm, with just a little alcohol burn to keep you honest. Lovely.

330ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, July 24. Pours very dark, thin pale tan head. Excellent rich depth, but perhaps lacks the sweetness and overall character of a Belgian quad.. some roast coming into view, stewed dark fruits.. lots going on in any case, decent rich dark sipper.

330ml bottle purchased as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Very dark brown, opaque with a tiny ring of khaki head. Molasses, liquorice root, red wine in the rich aroma. Taste is sweet. Very sweet, tooth ache sweet. There's a little sour/unmami something from the wine barrels but this is an incredibly sweet beer (this from someone who loves sweet beer). Dates, molasses sugar, maybe a touch of pecan. Body's medium with carbonation on the heavy side. A hell of an experience.

Craft Beer Junction bottle share. Thanks to me for the bottle. Almost clear deep brown beer, a few tan bubbles not forming a head. Smooth palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, whisper of caramel. Esters. Ripe plummy fruits. Light finish, very mild red wine barrel. Okay, was expecting a much richer barrelling.
