Zwart bier met mooie bruine schuimkraag. Smaak is bitter met iets van rook, bittere chocolade en een licht fruitige bijsmaak van rode bessen.

(Keg at Gallows Bird Real Ale Festival 2019) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had pine, resin and burnt malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, pine, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, burnt and bitter. A pleasant burnt brew with hoppy notes.

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Not far off black. Kernel swede, but in beige. Nose has a lovely mix of dry roast malt, light roast coffee bean, and charred pineapple and grapefruit. Some notes of burnt rubber and leather. Taste has a little fruity sweetness, but is mostly dry, roast malt and coffee bitterness. Light to medium body. Creamy mouthfeel. Fine carbonation. Leathery bitterness to finish. Last three dark beers from Kernel have been outstanding.

Keg tap at the NYE Kernel tap takeover at the Two-Tailed Lion at Leicester. Very dark brown bordering on black with a slight indigo hue. A small beige/khaki head on top. Gorgeous aroma with lots of pine needles, blueberries, liquorice, roast malt. Bitterness from the malt completes with the floral fruitiness of rhe hops. Gritty bitter in the finish, with more pine and blueberry in the aftertaste. Body is quite thin, but it's a session beer. Medium carbonation. Impressive stuff.

Bottle from the brewery in Bermondsey and drunk at home. Black beer lasting tan head. Dry dark chocolate. Some good dark chocolate, some dryness. Light grapefruit flavour. Not very bitter. Yep pretty decent. Not as good as some of these dry stouts, but still very drinkable. Decent.

Keg at HL Winter pop up, 14/12/18. Black with a decent tan cap. Nose is rich roast, chocolate, dusty hops, aniseed, dried fruits, toffee. Taste comprises roast malts, liquorice, bittersweet chocolate, light spice, pine needle, red berry pangs. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a good roast profile combined with well pronounced hop bitterness. Another solid offering in this series.
