We teamed up with long time pals Brew York to brew revisit our three-way Red IPA collaboration with the legendary Beer O'Clock Show Podcast.

We've taken the recipe for Red Danson and cranked it up a notch to create SuperRed (geddit!). Expect toffee and caramel from the sweet crystal malts followed by a classic West Coast slap round the face with hops.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up From Elusive o line. Pours mostly clear amber with a small, creamy off-white head. Great stuff, moderate sweetness, piney bitterness, semi-ripe citrus fruits, toasted grains, earth. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, piney resin, more toasted malts, a hint of dry caramel, orange peel. A beer that reminds me of the good old days!

440ml can bought as part of a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Reddish amber, fairly hazy with a swirl of beige head. Very malty aroma, slight aroma of berries and spruce, maybe a little toffee. Bittersweet taste, not as sweet as so many modern IPAs but the bitterness doesn't run away with it. Gets slightly more bitter in the finish. Thick body, carbonation on the soft side. Not bad!

Panda thanks to Cloin. Gotta love Rate beer style setup. An 8.5% beer is an IPA because it's red? Yeeesh! Here's an idea. Have a small set of main styles and a secondary set of sub-styles. E.g., DIPA - Red. Thank you, your welcome! 😁 A very light haze on this deep amber beer, a few pale tan bubbles don't quite form a head. Smooth palate, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a really pleasing toffee - caramel - cream that straddles the border between sweet and malty with aplomb. Rich ripe citrus peel with a touch of red berries ensue. Whisper of brandy on the smooth light finish leaves a spicy linger. Tasty stuff. So we have an IPA that should be a DIPA but is starting to taste like a barleywine!

Can at home, from HOTM online, 26/05/24. Moderately hazed reddish amber with a good sized lasting light beige head. Nose is grapefruit zest, bitter orange, pine needle, dried red berries, toasted malts, light perfume. Taste comprises caramel malts, blood orange, biscuit, pine needle, bitter tropical fruit underbelly. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with earthy come lightly resinous hop bitterness allied to a balanced boost. Solid for the style.

440ml can. Pours an ever so slightly hazy red, beige head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, biscuit malt, dark fruits. Taste is malty, caramel and toffee, biscuit, earthy, dark fruits, jammy, piney, grapefruit and resinous hop all at the end, bittersweet (but mostly bitter finish). Medium bodied. Solid IRIPA.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Hazy amber body with a few flecks beneath a tight beige head. No visible carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of caramel, treacle and parma violets. Flavour of blood orange, liquorice root and caramel. Medium to full body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. Rich, sweet, bitter and hoppy - this is an excellent beer (and beer style).

Very good. Malt-forward, with a lovely piney bitterness.
