Can at home, picked up from an online peddler whom I can't recall, 18/03/24. Deep mahogany to chestnut brown with a good sized lasting light beige head ... a lively pour! Nose is hedgerow, fruit rinds, toasted malts, biscuit, grains, herb, stewed fruits. Taste comprises earthy fruits, toffee, toasted brown sugar, biscuit malts, brown bread. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with some background earthy hop bitterness. Tidy flavoursome mild.

Can direct from the brewery. It pours deep red - brown with a small, bubbly beige head. The aroma is toasty grain, dried fruits, berry, fruit bread, malt loaf and a splash of Dr Pepper. The taste is dry and toasty upfront, smooth, bitter - sweet character, touch of caramel, cola, Dr Pepper, dried fruits, plum, date, dried fig ,fruit cake, brown bread and malt loaf with a smooth, toasty finish. Light+ body and fine, prickly carbonation. Nice fruit character. Good depth for the style. Moreish.

Cask at Borough Arms, Crewe. Pours a deep ruby red with minimal off-white head. Berry fruits are the mainstay of the aroma with some slight hoppiness, In the mouth it is juicy, fruity and slightly sweet, with cherries and malt flavouring plus some traces of floral hops and caramel. Finish is fruity. Reasonable, but lacking in oomph !

[Cask at the Nags Head, Reading.] A pale chestnut pour with a rim of beige head; hedgerow hop aroma; earthy malt taste with some caramel and red fruit; and a tangy fruity finish. An unusual twist on a mild.
