Late 2005 bottle from StewardofGondor consumed on 5/31/06.
Large light beige head eventually fades to ring, with very light lacing. The liquid is dark chestnut brown, with a medium-high to high clarity, settling out to a rusty-auburn-orange.
Very nutty aroma, tired and toasty, with heavy sourish tones and just a bare bit of chocolate sneaking in to provide a hint of sweetness. Some pale grains seem mostly attenuated, leading to little sweetness in that department. Old coffee and crunchy graham crackers linger on the finish. No alcohol and rather weak overall in strength.
A touch more sweetness, with some light almond and walnut notes mixing with a touch of pale sugars. Crunchy, sourish, toasted malts dominate though, with some DMS notable at first, souring things even more. Very light bodied, quite highly attenuated and with some weak coffee and hazelnut flavors. As it warms and breathes, the body continues to loosen, with very low carbonation, but the sour and vegetal flavors recede, allowing a more dry chocolate and light cream flavor to emerge. Nutty and rather earthy, it certainly is drinkable, but the slight astringency from the toasted malts and light roast might prove to much in larger quantities. Watery, somewhat, with a lightly grainy texture and no alcohol noted.

A rather unattractive, headless, turbid brown color - not much going on in the aroma - just some nuttiness and a hint of cocoa - the flavor is uninspiring - the beer just kind of washes over the palate without leaving much of an impression - it tastes like yeast, and almost nothing else (like liquid vegimite) - watery finish - if this beer is supposed to represent Wisconsin, it certainly isn’t making it look like an attractive place.

Bottled, rated "live." Big ol’ dark beer, buckwheat and molasses smell when I open and pour. Dark brown in color, with just a little lacing. Just a touch of smokiness against some unmalted graininess. No bubbles in the glass, but nice and fizzy. Guess it is closest to an alt, though it’s more how we’d imagine a frontier beer might be, made with whatever’s at hand.

No aroma or flavor at fridge temp. After warming to room temperature there is a big malt aroma, sweet, almost like it is going to be a bock. Flavor is simple, nutty with sweet malt. Lightly hopped, somewhat chakly. Goes down easily enough. Reminds me of their brown ale, but with a bit more body.

Pours hazy red-brown with a medium light tan head. Roasted chocolatey aroma with grassy hops. The body is rather unusual, very light-flavored for such a dark beer with plum and a hint of chocolate. Very creamy, slightly chalky mouthfeel. Thanks Jason (JCapriotti) for the beer!

Thanks to Pjones6738 for this one. I am still not very familiar with Alts but this was pretty good. Nice dark amber with a thin light beige head and some effervescence. Malt and caramel in the nose. Lighter flavor than the deep dark color implies, consisting of malt and caramel (again) with a slight roasted finish. I would have enjoyed this a lot more if it were a little more rich.
