A well made, fairly \"Old School\" stout by a great Canadian brewer. A rich dark tan head on a brown/black body. The nose includes malt, some chocolate and a touch of fruit. Right off the top a hint of wood smoke gets your attention. It is followed by more traditional stout elements - roasted malt, cream, slightly bitter coffee and cocoa. There also seems to be a decent hop background under those tastes, but there are a number of bitter or roasty tastes going on here, so it is hard to tell what is generating them. Typically well crafted.

A great all around easy drinking stout. Lots of roast, coffee, and bitter cocoa. Smooth mouthfeel, perfect carb. Roasty finish, medium bitterness. Subtle soy, and loads of roadty coffee, malts and cocoa notes. Rock solid.

A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, sweet chocolate malt with dark fruits, light mineral notes, light molasses, pleasant. In mouth, sweet chocolate malt with dark fruits, light oily mouth and light plums. Slight oxidation. Bottle from 2016.

Pours a real dark brown colour with a big creamy mocha head, very long lasting with some nice lacing. Nice coffee aromas over the burnt malt and smooth vanilla hints. The taste is pretty much roasted malts, hence the name "Old school" which makes sense. Nice lingering burnt flavours on the tongue with some dryness in the finish. A very nice typical stout that goes down very nicely and smooth.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours black with a small tan head. Nose brings out a good balance of roasted malt, oats, and dry cocoa. Flavour is very dry, with lots of oats upfront, followed by toasted bready malt. Bone dry palate - could actually use a touch of sweetness. As is, very good, drinkable stout.

Very dark, almost black...they use the word aphotic on the bottle and I like that. Bubbly light brown head. The aroma is black patent, bit of chocolate, and a touch of woody hop character. Rich, lots of roast, lots of dark chocolate. A bit more assertively roasty than most local stouts, so occupies a different niche.

Black color with small creamy head. Nice roasty aroma with milky accent, and bread. Highly carbonated mouthfeel, off-dry; prominent roasted malt flavor but not too aggressive; light impression of lactose. Maybe a bit too much roasty in the final.
Indeed old school.
