Gardner’s Tale is a farmhouse ale brewed with malted barley, wheat and fermented with a mixed culture before infusion of fresh mint foraged from our farm’s pasture. The lemon character developed through fermentation is restrained by the cooling mint sensation for a balanced and supremely refreshing beer.

500 ml purchased at Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge. Label reads just “ Gardener’s Tale “ without the word The. Paid $8.09. Batch 4 bottle July 2018. Cloudy gold color, mild carbonation. Aroma of acid, saline, and green leaves. Flavor has solid salinity with a touch of lemon. Mint doesn’t stand out here at all. Overall, as it should be.

Had September 18, 2018. Poured a slightly hazy, kind of dark yellow color with a medium sized white head. Slight tartness, touch floral with citrus. Fizzy. Bold flavors. Decent.

Bottled 10/15, drunk 12/22/15.
Crystal clear copper-bronze body is topped by a large white head that immediately fizzles to nothing, thanks to the herbs. So how do you rate that? Obviously herbal oil is going to impede head retention but what’s the point of giving it a low appearance score because of that?
Pineapple, chocolate, mint, basil, light lactic character, a good dose of butyric acid and bready malts.
Mint, basil, chocolate, delightful lactic character but more butyric acid, as well. Why is there so much god damned baby diaper here??? The mint tries to clean it up, but fails. Mint, thyme, basil, light bread, a bit of metal, i dont know. Definitely would like to like this more than I actually do. Just a bit unsettling with the sulfur and baby diaper. Not particularly tight carbonation, with a dry, watery, texture. A bit oily. 6/4/6/3/11
Bottle, batch 3 or 4, July 2018, drank 8/31/18.
Much better than I recall, almost certainly due entirely to having no bottling issues. The carbonation is on-point, no weird oxidation, watery character or dullness of aroma or flavor. Quite tart and moderately minty, with a moderate lactic presence and strong, soft malt texture for mouthfeel and balance. Tight carbonation and good attenuation. Lovely. Rating is updated to reflect this most recent batch.

Beer Table, NYC tap in a minigrowler: pours a light piss color with little head. Aroma is mint and herbs. Taste is minty with a light apricot touch to it. Pretty light. Aftertaste is minty. Tasty.
Earlier Rating: 10/16/2015 Total Score: 3.1
The Well, Brooklyn tap: pours golden with a white head. Aroma is light farmhouse and slight mint. Taste is basically a light saison with some light mint. Not great. I was expecting somethinng a bit better.

Keg at the Blind Tiger - NYC. Pours clear gold with minimal head. The nose has doughy malts, maybe a touch of butyric acid, lemon. Light to medium sweet with mild citric acidity, some more dough, lemon meringue. Medium bodied with spritzy carbonation. Finishes with more doughy wheat bread, lemony tartness, hay, citrus rind. I don’t really get any mint in this. Just OK.

Keg, 5.6% at Torst. It pours hazy pale gold with a decent white head. The nose is bitter - sweet, earthy, grainy, perfumed, floral and fresh mint. The taste is crisp, lightly tart, apple skin, grapefruit, minerals, sherbet, mint, straw and madelines with a drying finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Unusual, but not bad at all.
