Our first best bitter. A blend of 6 malts creates a rich, complex and smooth beer.

Aromas of toasted bread, caramel, dried fruit balanced by an earth hop bitterness from East Kent Goldings and Fuggles. It’s the perfect pint for a cosy fireside session.

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Covent Garden, London, 19 Nov 2024) Golden amber colour with foamy, off-white head. Malty nose with notes of apricots, toffee, autumn leaves and toast. Malty taste with toffee, toast, dried apricots and a balanced earthy bitterness. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Well balanced and refreshing. Nice one.

Gravity cask at Pig’s Ear 2024 - Hackney. Pours mostly clear gold with a small, creamy white head. Light-medium sweet flavour with notes of doughy pale malts, faint citrus and meringue, soft bitter straw. Light bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Sweet finish with further doughy pale bread, mellow bitter hay, lemon rind, some biscuits. A bit basic, could do with some more bitter kick, but not bad.

Cask at CBC, Covent Garden on 16th November 2024. Clear amber with the shallowest of foam and scant lacing. Mild malty aroma. Tangy fruitiness in-mouth. A long, satisfying bitter finish. Full bodied with an engaging mouthfeel. A rewarding ale.

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with minimal off-white head and good lacing. There’s traditional hops an marmalade in the aroma. In the mouth it is juicy and slightly to start with, and this bitterness gradually increases. Flavour has traditional hops, tangerine and autumn fruits with a hint of spices later on. Finish is bittersweet. It’s quite reasonable, but somewhat generic.

[Cask at the Greyfriar, Reading.] An amber pour with a scant covering of white head; the aroma is familiar but hard to pin down, in the end I settled for chestnut; the taste is similar, definitely nutty with a touch of caramel; then a woody bitterness and lingering nutty finish. An interesting bitter.
