Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. The aroma has roasted malts, alcohol and vanilla. In the mouth it has both sweetness and bitterness with the former dominant, and a creamy texture. Roasted malts and liquorice are the initial flavours, but then alcoholic strength comes through very quickly becoming the mainstay. Aniseed and treacle later on as well leading to a chewy and slightly dry finish. This is very nice – dangerously drinkable !

Cask at Chelmsfaasarhd Beer Fest. Just about clear deep amber brown beer, decent bubbly tan head. Airy, smooth and semi dry palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Good malt richness. Nice smooth chocolate, chocolate biscuits, slightly estery plummy fruits on the back end. Nice mild.

500ml bottle. [courtesy of Grumbo - thanks for yet another beautiful Mild!]. Opaque, dark brown colour with weak ruby shimmer and average to huge, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Nutty, minimally chocolately, toasty malty and yeasty fruity aroma, hints of Brazil nut, a touch of milk chocolate and red berries. Taste is sweet-ish, chocolately, slightly toasty and minimally nutty, dark malty, slightly dry, leafy hoppy, minimally yeasty fruity, hints of milk chocolate, a touch of Brazilian nut, nougat, fudge, red berries. Watery texture, relatively dry palate, medium, lively carbonation. Very nice composition, sadly slightly overcarbonated - enjoyable.

Handpull cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. It's ruby brown and clear with a small beige head and lots of lacing. Deep chocolate malts in the aroma with touches of vanilla and toffee. It's sweet all right, but it doesn't run away with the sweetness; there's a bitter hoppy character that takes precedent in the finish. Full oily body with low to medium carbonation. My goodness.
