(Cask at Cock Tavern, Hackney, London, 26 May 2022) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, coffee, sweet liquorice and dark fruit. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, prunes, raisins and a gentle roasty bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and well balanced porter, with a slightly sweetish touch. Very nice.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 14th December 2020. Dep sepia with tan foam and scant lacing. Rich roasty malts aroma with hints of candied fruits. Coffee and a hint of smoke in-mouth, with a satisfying roasty finish. Full bodied with an engaging texture.

Keg at Anchor Tap & Bottle, Croxley, Herts. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a thin beige head on top. Roasty, coffee, chocolate aroma and taste. Not too much happening here but it is fine.

Can at home picked up from Honest Brew. A dark nut brown coloured pour with a lasting light tan head. Aroma is big rustic farmyard roast, earthy, light ash, bark, Flavour is composed of soft roast, earthy, light ash, chestnut, little rusty penny, vanilla, rich and balanced. Palate is soft, slightly creamy, light tang. Really solid.

Can from Honest Brew. Black body with a beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of charred wood and beef stock. Flavour of ash and dark chocolate with a light berry tartness. Thin to medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. Good depth of flavour for the low ABV.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up at Clapton Craft. Pours deep brown with a foamy, tan head. Great beer overall, very well executed. Dry and ashy, with nice bitter dark chocolate, scorched earth, some bitter black coffee. Light bodied with average carbonation. Dry and bitter in the finish, with lingering sturdy ashy character. Sound.
