THE DEFENDER is constantly vigilant, standing guard over all those who dare to drink great beer. This bright, juicy, West Coast-style IPA takes on a reddish twist from a dash of roasted malt. Bold, fruity hop bitterness and an intensely resinous nose lead the way into a dry finish that blazes the trail for your next sip.
Who is this masked hero? The Defender emerged in an era when gloomy walls and bland beer held our city in a stranglehold. Slowly, murals began to brighten the landscape and flavorful beer flooded the taps. Today the city is alive with fiery art and delicious beer. The Defender maintains constant vigilance to battle back the blandness lurking around the edges. Ours is a world of light, fury, and song. This is it’s Defender!
Brooklyn Defender IPA was forged in collaboration with our sidekicks at New York Comic Con as the official beer of the convention.
Malts: Pilsner, Crisp, Carared, Crystal

12 oz. bottle purchased at Spruce Creek Provisions. Clear Amber / orange color with light legs of lacing. Aroma is nice citrus orange marmalade and mild lasting pine.

Flavor is orange marmalade upfront with a Pilsner malt center. The finish is a mild myriad of floral, pine and grassy hints. Carbonation is lively and turn the palate dry. Body is in the medium range. Overall a pretty decent hop profile, perhaps a tad malty but pretty good balance.

Bottle. Pours a coppery orange with a decent head that laces nicely and gives off aromas of tropical fruits and grain dust. The nose is a bit subdued... kind of juicy, but not strong. Flavor is much more interesting. A blast of mango and passion fruit with some pine/pineapple and a juicy orange/honey sweetness. Very nice stuff, but could be a little more directional.

Medium body with flavors of herbal hops, grapefruit and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a citrusy hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

12 ounce bottle. Copper colored with a small bubbly beige head. Fragrant piney and citrus hop nose. Upfront flavor is juicy citrus hops and toasted caramel malt. Middle becomes more malty with nutty, buttery notes. Finish has grapefruit and resiny hops, but not overly bitter. Nice balance and easily drinkable.
