Notting Hill Blizzard is a strong rye beer with a malty base, hints of dried fruits and a slight toffee aroma. It has been aged in Bourbon whiskey barrels for 1 year, allowing the beer to soak up the wonderful complex flavours left in the oak and adding buttery, vanilla-like and whiskey characteristics to the beer.

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Dark bronze. Soft haze. Thin, dense film of beige head, that sticks all the way. Nose has lots of rye spice. Notes of bourbon and chocolatey, vanilla infused oak. Bit of a jaffa cake thing going on. Taste is soft, orangey sweet. Gets spicy, peppery bitter. Bit of a citric twang. Soft and smooth, massaging mouthfeel. The finish is spicy and soft bitter. Missus is comparing this with Shameless Santa. I’m inclined to agree. Lovely.

The Pigs Ear wrap up tasting at ChrisO’s. Hazy deep red - amber beer, small cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and has decent fine carbonation. Thin sweetish malts, a tangy caramel - toffee and thin malt cream. Nice, if thin, bourbon. A little floralness. Light citric peel and marmalade. Touch of woody bitterness. Some mild and sweetish esters. Light dry finish. Dry but tasty.

Bottle big thanks to Leighton. It pours cloudy deep brown with a decent beige. The nose is soft, sweet, sticky, toffee, raw booze, bourbon, honeycomb, vanilla, banana split and wood. The taste is bitter-sweet, big boosty bourbon hit, oak, light charred notes, leather, tannins, vanilla, dark chocolate, cacao nibs and dried fruits with a dry finish. Medium - full body and average carbonation. Good depth and balance. Nice work.
