Craft Tottenham Court Road. Keg. Opaque black - brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, mild fine carbonation. Fairly rich dark malts bring a little dark chocolate. Trace of cream. Mild spicy pine. Bitterish florlaness. Smooth finish. It’s not the lightest of CDA and is malt dominant. More of a reasonably well hopped porter I think. It’s fine.

Keg at CBC CG. It pours opaque black with a sturdy tan head. The nose is rich roast, fruit cake, chocolate, pine, toffee and fudge. The taste is pretty bitter upfront, rich hard roast, coffee, dark chocolate, grapefruit, pepper, earthy, burnt pine and some astringency with a lingering bitter-dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Aroma is rather nice, but the taste is a bit rough/unstuble. Overall it’s still pretty decent.

Keg at CBC St. Giles - London. Pours clear, rich brown with a creamy tan head. Mild toasted malts in the nose, some old pine and burnt caramel. Medium sweet flavor with a decent hit of oily booze, some charcoal, roast, baking cocoa, scorched earth, burnt pine. Full bodied with average carboantion. Bitter and roasty on the finish, warming, with some oily resin, charred pine, bittersweet chocolate. Pretty punchy stuff but not bad overall.

Keg at CBC St Giles, 22/10/15. Light black topped with a decent tan swirl. Nose is earthy hop, cocoa powder, charr, liquorice, light spice. Taste comprises burnt toffee, charr, roasty tones, cacao nibs, tropical fruit undertones, light pine. Medium bodied with a bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a little boost and an earthy hop closure. Decent CDA.

Keg at Craft Beer Co, Covent Garden, London. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige white head on top. Roasty, malty, pine aroma. Tastes similar, roasty, malty, caramel, pine. Quite different to a UK black IPA but still pretty decent.

Growler thanks to Homer! Pours deep clear black, medium tan head, long lasting and good lacing. Aroma is roasty piney citrus; pretty standard blend. Flavor is medium sweet, pretty bitter with a blend of roast and pine grapefruit hoppy bitterness. Medium body, super soft and creamy mouthfeel. A well done Black IPA, but sits a notch below best in class.

Dark brown. Thin head. Aroma is molasses, woody, citrusy hops...complex and enticing. Very bitter, has a hint of molasses, and the earthy, woody bitter character is really intense. I like it - more assertive than most examples I’ve tried lately.
