Bottle on the train to the first annual Cotteridge Convention. Thanks to Scopey for this Harvey’s scope. Pours clear gold with a frothy, white head. The nose has some ripe berries, bready malts, light orange. Medium sweet flavor with notes of brown sugar, toffee, orange and leaves. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with further leafy hops, citrus, bread, candied orange peel. OK.

Bottle from Harvey’s online shop. Appearance - golden with a proportionate head. Nose - oranges and biscuits. Taste - bitter biscuits, burnt orange. Light mineral in the background. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - a bit gnarly but I think this is quite good.

(Cask at Royal Oak, Borough, London, 29 Nov 2014) amber colour with foamy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, orange, apricots and earthy hints of yeast. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, dried fruit, apricots, orange, earthy yeast and a generous resiny bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty beer with a generous hop presence and that traditional house style yeast character. Nice one.

Nose is yeast, toffee, light dung, caramel, rich fruit notes. Taste comprises orange rind, malt, bread, spice, biscuit, caramel, lighter fruit notes than on the aroma. Medium bodied, moderate carbobation, bittering close. So so.

The nose is toasty, grainy, straw, mild sweetness, light apple & pear and a touch of egg. The taste is crisp, bitter, grainy, pithy citrus, pepper, straw, sherbet, and musty earth with a dry finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Crisp and drinkable. Classic Harvey’s stuff.

Cask, handpump at The Royal Oak, Southwark/Borough, Thursday 30th October 2014. Pours deep gold with a slight head atop. Aroma is malt driven, in the mouth it is malty but also with a bitter edge, quite thick mouthfeel. Tastes stronger than 5%, I am unsure whether I like it, but have to conclude it is in superb nick. I don’t like the bitterness at all, it isn’t very integrated. Ok A7 A4 T5 P3 Ov12 3.1
