Admin note: This is the original 2018 release brewed with (and at) Tiley's. If your bottle has Tiley's logo on the front this is the correct beer. Otherwise, see "Vatted Porter"

Vatted Porter was brewed at Tiley's Brewery in January 2017. It was then fermented in the coolship at Mills Brewing with a blend of Tiley's ale yeast and the Mills Brewing house culture. The beer was matured in a single oak barrel for one year before further conditioning in bottle. The resulting beer is both sour and rich, with notes of dried fruit, cocoa and coffee.

75cl bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Oct 20. Brought my me, bought at Olivers Cider Barn. Hazed dark brown, beige topping. Aroma of coffee, woody roast. Taste brings excellent complexity with razor sharp definition. Plenty of coffee, woody roast, oak, leather wallet, ash offset by a curious red berry sweetness and a warming red wine close. Wonderfully complex vatted porter, perfect condition after a couple of years in the cupboard, nice natural carbonation. Great example of this long-forgotten style.

Bottle picked up at Salt Horse a while back. It pours a touch hazy and deep mahoganny brown in colour with thick beige head. The aroma is rich dark fruits, bit musty, date, plum, raisin, tangy berry, oak and toasty grain. The taste is dry, tart, tangy, plenty of tangy berry, dark fruits, vinous, leathery, cacao nibs, light tannin ,toasty grain and touch of acidity. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Reminded me a bit of Burning Sky monolith from memory. Fun and interesting stuff.

Bottle shared at Cotteridge Convention 2018 - cheers! Pours lightly hazy red-brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose holds tangy, dried berries. Light sweet flavour, tangy, some brown bread, lemon, more berries. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with yet more tangy berry character, mellow acidity, more brown bread. Certainly OK stuff.

Bottle. Friends of Ham, Leeds. Also shared at Cotts 2018, but it was well hote, so didn’t rate it then. Mostly clear, deep, ruby red. Thick and dense, lasting, fully lacing, beige head. Looks the bees. Nose has coffee and walnut cake, according to the missus. Wet leather. Sour plum. Light sour funk. Some dark cherry chocolate. Taste is dry, tart, leathery, and vinous sour. Bitter chocolate and cherry. Tart, dry, and lightly acidic on the palate. Foamy carbonation. More tart cherry chocolate to finish. Tasty gear, and pretty unique. In a league of two, along with Burning Sky Cherry Monolith.
