[ As Northern Monk Dark Arches Black IPA ].Clear dark black brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, moderate to heavy hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, light wood. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, roasted, ash, grapefruit, citrus, hoppy, dry. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. 330ml can. Jet black colour with average, thick, creamy, mostly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Grassy, herbal-spicy hoppy and roasty dark malty aroma, notes of coffee, cocoa, eucalyptus, woodruff, green onion. Taste is bitter hoppy and bitter roasty dark malty, subtle, minimally sugary sweetness, notes of dark chocolate, coffee, grassy and leafy hoppy notes woodruff, eucalyptus, mint. Excellent!

330ml can. Pours a black-brown colour with a foamy biege head leaving lacing and aroma of juicy tropical fruits, citrusy, hoppy. Taste is roasted malt caramel, dusty chocolate & coffee, with tangy citrus, fruity, hop resins, pine and grapefruit bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, lingering dry roast bitter finish. Very drinkable Black IPA.

Keg at Tilt Brum; dark opaque brown pour with a creamy tan head, aroma has resinous pine and some dark chocolate, taste has pine, rich chocolate, bitter finish, decent CDA.

Pitch black, tan head, nose of citrus and piney hops with dark malts. Rich sweet dark malts in the flavour, some dark chocolate, citrus and piney hops on top. Soft carb, medium body, smooth. Really tasty - how a Black IPA should be.

(Cask at Craft Beer Clerkenwell, London, 19 Apr 2016) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, hoppy nose with notes of coffee, chocolate, caramel and grapefruit. Malty, roasted, hoppy taste with coffee, dark chocolate, grapefruit, resin and a generous bitterness in the finish. Medium body, quite dry. Well made black IPA with an almost uncompromising hop presence. Very nice.

Cask@Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell (8/4/2016) - black pour with tan head. Aroma and taste is roasted malty, nice hoppy notes, some underlying tropical fruity hit of grapefruit and pine, some cocoa, nice burnt malty nuance, hoppy bitter finish. Solid.

Keg at Amersham beer shop, Amersham, Bucks. A black coloured pour with a healthy beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate aroma. Tastes roasty, malty, chocolate, hoppy, a little coffee, slightly bitter. Nice black IPA.
