On opening there’s a huge whiff of bourbon: caramel, chocolate, coconut and vanilla. Low carbonation, but oh so lovely bourbon notes.

Rating 14,000. Bottle from a visit to the Ramsgate Brewery. Thanks Eddie, you are still the best brewer in Kent in my ever so humble opinion. Black beer, Bubbly tan head. Aroma of bourbon and dark chocolate. Touch of chocolate liquer aroma. A little bit of chocolate sponge cake aroma. No huge carbonation. Hides abv well. Some sting on the finish. A lot of chocolate, dark chocolate comes through, like dark Belgian chocolate. Bourbon in the mouth is very subtle. The flavour is excellent. A bit of a sipper. Just settled down with this and some radio comedy. Rather a good barrel aged impy stout. Touch of vanilla and coconut on the aroma.

Appearance- black, and absolutely no head whatsoever. Plenty of alcohol legs. Aroma- chocolate, bitterness, cocoa, vanilla and bourbon notes, hint of leather. Taste- leathery, plenty of vanilla bourbon, smooth with almost no carbonation, a bit viscous but the mouthfeel is actually not that full. Bitter cocoa and coffee undertones, syrupy and a bit fudgy. Alcohol is quite well hidden. Pretty good imperial stout.

21/03/2014 330ml bottle (thanks Theydon_Bois!). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma beige-cappuccino modesta. Al naso sentori di malti tostati, zucchero di canna, toffee, alcol, ossidazione, squilibrata, rozza e aggressiva. In bocca alcol, malti tostati, caramello, ossidazione, completamente sballata e rozza. Corpo pieno, piatta. Pessima.

Bottle at Craig’s tasting. Huge toffee bourbon nose, sweet toffee and vanilla taste, sweet chocolate, dry, harsh bourbon. Blend of both was also nice.

Bottle shared at Craft Clerkenwell. It pours jet black with a bubbly light tan head. The nose is roasted malt, toast, earth, dark chocolate, alcohol, vanilla and treacle. The taste is bitter-sweet, earthy, musty, fudge, toffee, sweet coffee, vanilla, milk chocolate and bourbon. Limited carbonation, full body and sticky carbonation. Not bad, but unfortunately under-carbonated.

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell - London. Many thanks to Paul for bringing this one along with the brett version. Pours oily, black-brown with a light, bubbly brown head. Nose of dark berries, grapes and light cheese. Medium sweet flavor with definite alcohol presence, burnt wood, odd parmesan cheese and milk chocolate. Full bodied with fine, perhaps a bit too soft carbonation. Warming finish with torched wood, parmesan and chocolate, along with some salty kick. So so but the cheese presence isn’t awesome.
