Dark as a moonless night and smoother than Morgan Freeman in a velvet suit, De La Crème uses added lactose sugar to bring sweet chocolate, caramel and cream flavours to your attention. More than just another milk stout, De La Crème is really the crème de la crème.

Cask at the Bootlegger, High Wycombe. Brown-black with a moderate off-white head and a smooth mouthfeel. Chocolate and cream. And that’s about it. A little flat, a little one-dimensional, but pleasant enough I suppose.

Cask at the haymarket. Pours black with a thin beige head. Aromas of coffee, light lactose, light roast. Taste is more of that milk and coffee combo. Roasted bitter finish. Not bad.

On cask at the Haymarket. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - dark chocolate and cream. Taste - more of the same. Almost flaked chocolate. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long elegant finish. Overall - yes enjoyable. Would’ve taken more lactose notes. Good for the low ABV.

Cask @ Deacon Brodies, Edinburgh. Nearly black with a creamy off white head. Has a soapy roasted malt aroma with the milky part evident in its taste. Easy drinking.

Keg dispense at the Grain Store, Cambridge. Extremely dark brown, almost black, opaque. Liquorice and spruce aroma, hints of woodsmoke and egg white. Bittersweet taste and bitter nutty finish. Smooth texture, a bit too cold for my liking but the extra carbonation adds body. Very impressive.
