Cask at the brewery taproom. Pours deep brown with a light, creamy beige cap. The nose holds dark bread, toasted grains and light earth. Medium sweet flavor with some peat, a bit of red chili spice, burnt toast, baking cocoa. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; so so condition. Moderate chili burn on the finish with some oily chocolate, burnt wood, general dark malt character, some ripe and dried dark fruits. Chili pepper heat in the aftertaste. Not bad. The spice is forward but not over the top. A slow starter but strong finisher.
