At Torrside we love the smoked beers of Germany, and it's the sort of flavour that sits well within the very British stout. So we've brewed this stout with smoked malt in place of the usual ale malt, and thrown in healthy amounts of the classic Challenger hop.

Creamy tan head on a dark brown body. Smoked, pig & burnt aroma. Medium bodied, smooth with a clean back. Malt, demerara, sour berries & smoked tastes with lightly hopped fruity finish. Nice.

500ml bottle from Ebenezer's, Crewe. Pours dark with a good tan head. Lovely smoked nose, not too crazy.. smoked elements don't appear too dominating to taste either, meatiness reigned in, just enough, allowing further dark malt shades to emerge. Nice smoky evening sipper in front of the TV.

On tap at the Green Goddess, Blackheath Royal Standard. Dark brown pour with a beige head. Aromas of raisin, smoke, dark fruits. Flavours of smoke, dark fruits, raisin, burnt toast, touch of cola. Smoky malty finish. Most certainly gives the boys at Schlenkerla at run for their money. Spot on.

Bottle. Nose is soft smoke, soy, meat, bavarian cheese. Taste is smoked malt, leading to soft caramel, slight sour note, blackcurrent, burnt toast, licorice, smoke. A smoked stout is interesting and enjoyed this.

Tried in a bottle from the Hopology Nottingham. Aroma is light smokey malt, some chocolate, and roasted malt. The beer is jet black with a large tight tan head. Taste initially smokey, then roasted bitter. Medium body.

(Draught at Craft Beer Co Islington, London, 22 April 2017) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, coffee, black rye bread and hints of smoke. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, liquorice, coffee, smoke and a mild roasty bitterness. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty, with a gentle smoke touch. Nice one.

Cask at CBC, Islington on 16th April 2017. Almost black with tan scantily lacing, shallow foam. Roasty malt aroma with smokiness. Intensely roasty and smoky in-mouth - woodsmoke. Toasty malt and satisfying smokiness in the finish. Bold without being extreme. Medium-bodied with a smooth, solid mouthfeel.
