This black beer is a modern interpretation of a classic old ale, aged on toasted oak chips to give vanilla notes which complement the rich malt flavours.

(Cask at Cock Tavern, Hackney, London, 21 Nov 2025) Nut brown colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, dried fruit, raisins, bread and oak wood. Fruity, slightly tart taste with notes of caramel, nuts, dried fruit, apricots, dark bread and a mild earthy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Complex and well balanced with a mild acidity. Very nice.

Cask at Hops d’Amour, Coventry on 31st October 2025. Dark brown with shallow, beige foam and spot lacing. Hazelnut nuttiness in aroma. Nutty in-mouth with ripe soft fruits, and a bittering spiced finish. Engaging texture, and a full body.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading] A bright reddish copper pour with a tight cream head; spicy malt aroma; sweet and syrupy in the mouth with some caramel and barley sugar, nicely balanced by a gentle bitterness. A soothing cough syrup of a beer.

Cask at the Kings Arms - Buckfast Street. Pours clear copper-gold with a creamy, off-white head. Light-medium sweet flavour with notes of toasted malts, a little caramel, nips of aged berries, a little earthy-leafy hop. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Balanced finish, more toasted malts, a little grain, earth, mild leathery fruits. Delicious.
