Rye ESB
It was great to welcome the Wiper and True team to our home in Bakewell as we love the clear attention to quality they put into all of their range and we were excited to work with them. Together we decided on one of our favourite styles, the ESB, but wanted to take a fresh approach. We used a healthy addition of Rye within the malt bill to enhance the fullness and warmth of the body of the beer. We felt this would really work well with a crisp and citrus-led hop bite, so decided on Waimea from New Zealand and Amarillo from the US, for an extra punch of orange and grapefruit.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from Thornbridge online. Pours a fetching, clear copper-gold with a creamy, off-white head. Light sweet flavour with notes of toasted grains, graham crackers, pine, light earth. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Lightly resinous finish, more toasted malts, a little pine, orange rind, crackers. Very nice. Tasty.

17th September 2023 Can. Clear deep amber brown beer, good be bubbly pale tan head. Palate is smooth and light, good fine minerally carbonation develops on the back end. Smooth malts, nice brown malt character, slightly earthy, whisper of cocoa and a nice light malt cream sweetness. Mild rye tang. Modest ripe fruits in the mid and a rounded ripe citric orange. Crisp pine before a light finish. Nice job. Clean, crisp and drinkable. A really nice ESB here, impressive work from Thornbridge, any errors in a beer like this would be pretty obvious I think.

On tap at Beer Joint. Pours a clear deep amber with a tan head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has rye and bread up front with some straw and a bit of earthy grain supporting. Flavor has bread up front with a light sweetness and a growing rye presence.

Can. Thornbridge subscription box. Clear amber. Good off white head. Fruity slightly herbal notes. Taste is fairly sweet and fruity. Some vine fruit tanginess. Drinks fine. Light bitter finish. Probably best suited to cask.
